Well, y’all know how it goes when ya got a cat, right? They need a litter box, and ya need somethin’ to fill it up with. Now, I ain’t no expert, but I sure do know about cat litter. Used to be, you just used whatever you could find, maybe some dirt or sand, or even a pile of old leaves. But now, there’s all kinds of fancy stuff, and one of them was this thing called “Yesterday’s News” cat litter.

Now, this “Yesterday’s News,” it wasn’t like the usual clay stuff or them fancy little crystal things. No, this here litter was made outta newspaper. Yep, they’d take old newspapers, shred ’em up, and then press ‘em into little pellets. Now, I ain’t gonna lie, it sounded a bit strange at first, but it was actually a good idea. See, it was cheap, and it was better for the environment. No clay mines gettin’ dug up, no chemicals gettin’ used. Just good ol’ recycled paper turned into somethin’ useful for your cat’s business.
But, shoot, sometimes good things don’t last. They went and stopped makin’ that Yesterday’s News litter in 2022. I reckon it got too expensive or somethin’, but there ain’t no more of it. You can’t find it on the shelves no more, no matter how hard you look. Kinda sad, if you ask me, ’cause it was a good choice for a lot of folks who had more than one cat. Real affordable, too.
Now, I know some of y’all might be wonderin’ how to use this stuff if ya still got a bit left. Well, here’s what I remember. First off, you didn’t just dump it in there all at once. Nope, ya had to mix it with your regular litter for a few weeks to get your cat used to it. Like, the first week, you’d mix two-thirds of Yesterday’s News with one-third of whatever litter you was usin’. Then, by the third week, you could just use all Yesterday’s News. Easy as pie.
Now, if you’re still tryin’ to find somethin’ like it, don’t worry, there are other options out there. Some folks use other recycled litters made from things like wood chips or corn. And there’s also Fresh News, which is made from newspaper too, just like the old Yesterday’s News. They say it’s nontoxic, which is good if your cat’s a little too curious with their paws. Ain’t nobody want a cat gettin’ sick from the stuff in their litter box.
But let’s not forget, it ain’t just about what kind of litter you use. You gotta keep the box clean, too. If ya don’t, you’re just askin’ for trouble. I reckon a lot of folks forget to scoop the box every day, and that’s how ya end up with a stinky house. Ya gotta keep the litter at a good depth, too—about two to three inches deep is good for pawin’ and coverin’ the mess. And don’t forget to change it out regularly. Ain’t no sense in havin’ a cat box that’s a hot mess.

So, there ya have it. Yesterday’s News cat litter might be gone, but there’s still plenty of other options out there for your kitty’s needs. Just make sure ya keep the box clean, and your cat’ll be happy as a clam. And who knows, maybe one day, they’ll bring it back. A girl can dream, right?
