Okay, let me tell you about getting my artificial lawn cleaned, especially since I’ve got dogs running around on it all the time.
Why I Needed It Done
So, the fake grass started looking a bit… well, used. You know how it gets. Leaves, general dirt, and yeah, the spots where the dogs prefer to do their business. It wasn’t smelling super fresh either, especially on warmer days. I hose it down now and then, but it felt like it needed a proper deep clean. My main worry was finding something safe for the pets. Didn’t want them licking weird chemicals or getting sick.
Finding a Pet-Friendly Service
I looked around for companies specifically mentioning “pet-friendly” cleaning. Found one that seemed decent, gave them a call. I made sure to ask them straight up – is this stuff absolutely safe for dogs? They said yes, explained their process used non-toxic cleaners, basically stuff that breaks down the pet smells and cleans without harsh chemicals. Sounded alright, so I booked it.
The Cleaning Day
When the crew showed up, first thing they did was clear off the big stuff. Leaves, twigs, any dog toys left out. Just used a stiff brush and blowers. Then they gave the whole lawn a good rinse with water.
Next came the cleaning solution. They sprayed it all over using some kind of dispenser attached to a hose. It didn’t have a strong chemical smell, maybe a bit soapy? They paid extra attention to the areas I pointed out as the dogs’ favorite potty spots. They let that sit for a bit.
After letting it soak, they used a power brush thingy – not like a high-pressure washer that could damage the grass, more like a rotating brush – to scrub the lawn. This seemed to lift the dirt and fluff up the grass blades a bit too, which was nice. Looked less flat afterwards.
Finally, another thorough rinse with plain water to wash away the cleaner and all the loosened grime. They spent a good amount of time making sure it was all washed through.
The Outcome and Pet Reaction
Honestly, it looked much better. Greener, cleaner, and definitely smelled fresher. That dog pee smell was pretty much gone. Not completely like brand new, it’s still walked on daily, but a huge improvement.
I kept the dogs inside while they worked and for about an hour after they left, just to let it dry out a bit as they recommended. When I let the dogs back out, they sniffed around quite a bit, as you’d expect. But importantly, no weird reactions, no licking paws constantly, no upset stomachs. They just went back to their usual routine of zooming around and lounging on it. So, the “pet-friendly” claim seemed legit, which was my biggest concern.
Overall, yeah, it was worth doing. Took the hassle out of me trying to scrub it myself and worrying about using the wrong stuff. The lawn looks better, smells better, and the dogs are fine. Probably something I’ll do maybe once or twice a year to keep it decent.
