Okay, so I’ve been having a bit of a time with my little buddy, Mittens. She’s getting up there in years, and sometimes she just doesn’t have the appetite she used to. It’s a real struggle to get her to eat enough, you know? I tried everything, different foods, warming it up, the whole nine yards. Nothing seemed to work. Then I remembered something I used to do with my old dog, Buster, God rest his soul.
I went online and started looking for these things called pet feeding syringes. Basically, they’re syringes, but without the needle, and they’re designed to help you feed pets who are having trouble eating on their own. I looked around a few different sites, checking out prices and reviews.

- First, I hit up this big pet supply site. They had a few different kinds, but they were out of stock on the one I wanted. Bummer.
- Then I checked out a site called Lambert Vet Supply. They had a decent selection, and the prices seemed okay.
- I found this one place that had these nylon feeding syringes. Supposedly, they’re unbreakable and have these etched markings that won’t rub off. They were a bit pricier, but they sounded pretty durable.
- There was even this kit I saw, a “Pet Liquid Feeding Kit” with soft tips. Looked pretty gentle, which is important for my old girl.
- I also found an online pharmacy for pets. They had a bunch of different insulin syringes, and I guess you could use those for feeding in a pinch, but they weren’t exactly what I was looking for.
After comparing everything, I decided to go with the nylon one. It seemed like the best mix of durability and price. I placed the order, and it arrived a few days later.
When it got here, I washed it out real good, just to be safe. Then I mixed up some of Mittens’ favorite wet food with a little bit of water to make it soupy. I filled up the syringe, and then it was time for the real test.
At first, she was a little hesitant, but I just gently put the tip of the syringe in the side of her mouth and slowly pushed the plunger. She started licking and swallowing, and before I knew it, she had finished the whole thing! It was such a relief to see her eating again.
I’ve been using the syringe for a few weeks now, and it’s been a real game-changer. Mittens is eating better, she has more energy, and I’m not constantly worried about her not getting enough nutrition. It’s not the most fun thing in the world to do, but it’s worth it to see her happy and healthy. So, if you’re having trouble getting your furry friend to eat, I definitely recommend giving these pet feeding syringes a try. They might just be the solution you’ve been looking for.
Cleaning Up
Cleaning the thing is pretty straightforward, too. I just take it apart, rinse all the pieces with warm water, and then give them a good scrub with some dish soap. Once a week, I boil it for a few minutes just to make sure it’s extra clean. I keep it stored in a clean container, ready for the next feeding.
