Maybe even give it a good waterin’ after a while, just to be sure. Better safe than sorry, that’s what I always say.
- Watch Out for the Signs: And keep an eye on them, you hear? If they start actin’ funny, pantin’ too much, shakin’ or somethin’, you get them to the vet, fast. Don’t wait around, hop to it!
What’s in That Stuff Anyway?
I dunno all them big fancy words they use, but it’s chemicals, you know? Stuff to kill the weeds, make the grass green. And them chemicals, they can be bad news for the little ones. Specially if they get too much of it. It’s like, too much candy for a kid, makes ‘em sick. Only this here candy is way worse.
Protectin’ Your Furry Friends
So, what do ya do? Well, like I said, keep them inside when you’re sprayin’. And don’t let them eat the grass, ever. I know some dogs like to chew on it, but it ain’t good for ‘em, even without the weed and feed. And always, always read the directions on them bags. They tell you what to do, mostly. But sometimes, they use such big words, it’s hard to understand. So you need to do some research and ask around.
The Scotts Stuff and Other Brands
Now, there’s this Scotts company, they make a lot of this weed and feed stuff. I’ve heard it works good on the weeds, but you gotta be careful with it. They say on the bag to keep the dogs and cats off it for a while, but I say, keep ‘em off longer. Just to be sure, you know? And it ain’t just Scotts, it’s all them brands. They all got that stuff in it that can hurt the critters. I use some other stuff myself, stuff that ain’t as strong, but takes a bit longer to work. It is what it is I guess.
Pet-Friendly Ways to a Pretty Lawn
There’s other ways to get a nice lawn, you know. Ways that don’t involve all them strong chemicals. You can use stuff like compost, or manure even. Yeah, that’s right, the stuff from the cows and chickens. It works good, and it ain’t gonna hurt the dogs and cats none. And you don’t have to use so much of it either. Just a little bit here and there, and the grass grows just fine.
If You Smoke Weed, That’s a Different Story
Now, some folks, they hear “weed” and they think about somethin’ else entirely. Somethin’ you smoke, you know? Well, that’s a whole different kettle of fish. That stuff, it’s for people, not for the animals. Keep that stuff away from your pets, for sure. It ain’t good for them, no sir. They can get real sick from it. Just like with the weed and feed for the lawn, gotta be careful, gotta be responsible.
Extra Nitrogen Ain’t Good, Neither
And another thing, even if you ain’t usin’ that weed and feed stuff, too much fertilizer ain’t good. You know, the stuff that makes the grass grow real fast? Too much of that, and it can burn the grass, and it ain’t good for the dogs and cats neither. Their pee and poop, that’s got nitrogen in it too, and too much of that ain’t good. So, you gotta find a balance, you see? Not too much, not too little. Just right.
Read the Label, That’s What It’s There For!
So, the long and short of it is, be careful with that weed and feed. Read the instructions, keep the critters safe, and maybe think about usin’ somethin’ a little less strong. Your lawn might not be the prettiest on the block, but at least your furry friends will be safe and sound. And that’s what matters most, right? A healthy pet is better than a perfect lawn any day of the week. You just remember that, you hear?
Pendimethalin Can Stain
Oh, and one more thing I heard. There’s this stuff called pendimethalin in some of them weed killers. It can stain your pet’s fur. Not the end of the world, I guess, but somethin’ to keep in mind. If they get into it and roll around, you will notice different colors on your pet, that ain’t good so you need to wash it off right away.
