Alright, so I got this mission, right? Find out the daily specials prices at Fat Cats. Seemed simple enough. My brother-in-law was in town, and he’s one of those guys who always scrutinizes the bill, so I figured, hey, specials might keep the peace and the wallet a bit happier.
First thing, naturally, I jumped online. Went to their website. You’d think, in this day and age, it’d be plastered right there. Nope. Nothing. Just some fancy photos of their food and the address. Seriously, folks, what year is this? Then I thought, okay, maybe their social media page. Scrolled through endless posts of customer photos and pictures of cats – cute, but not what I was looking for. Saw a special from two months ago. Real helpful, that was.
So, plan B: the good old telephone. I dialed them up. First attempt, rang and rang, no answer. Second attempt, busy. Figures. Third time lucky? Someone picked up, sounded like they were in the middle of a rush. So, against my better judgment and desire to stay comfy at home, I actually had to trek down there. Felt like I was on some kind of quest for hidden treasure. I walked into Fat Cats, and sure enough, after craning my neck around a bit, I spotted it: a small, dusty chalkboard tucked away near the kitchen door. The writing was a bit smudged, too.
After squinting for a bit, this is what I managed to piece together for their specials that week:
- Monday Madness Burger: Looked like a standard burger, maybe with an extra pickle. Price? $12.50.
- Taco Tuesday (of course): Three tacos for $9.00. Not bad, I guess.
- Wing-It Wednesday: 75 cents a wing, minimum six. They always get you with the minimums.
- Thirsty Thursday: Some beer specials, but the prices were conveniently smudged.
- Friday Fish Fry: “Market Price.” Ah, the old market price gamble. Could be anything.
Honestly, after all that rigmarole, just to get a list of prices that should be easily available, I felt a bit… deflated. It reminded me of this time I was trying to find out the recycling schedule for my new neighborhood. You’d think it’d be on the city website, clear as day. Oh no. I had to click through about seven different pages, download three PDFs, and practically learn a new bureaucratic language just to figure out if it was blue bin week or green bin week. It’s like some places just enjoy making simple information as hard to find as possible. Why? Is it a test? Do you get a prize if you finally unearth the information?
Anyway, I got the prices for Fat Cats. My brother-in-law still probably found something to grumble about, but at least I could say I did my due diligence. Some businesses, man. They really make you work for it. Maybe the real special is the adventure you have trying to find out what the actual specials are.
