Alright, let’s talk about them Rottweiler dog feet, the dew claws and all that. You know, those little extra toes they got sometimes? Yeah, them things.
What are Rottweiler dew claws anyway? Well, looky here, they’re like little thumbs on their feet, ‘cept they ain’t really thumbs, ya know? Mostly on the front paws, but sometimes them dogs get ‘em on the back too. The front ones, they kinda stick out, and the dog, he uses ‘em for holdin’ stuff, like a bone or a toy. Them back ones, though, they just kinda hang there, danglin’ like a loose thread.
Now, some folks, they like to get rid of them dew claws, especially the ones on the back legs. Why? I ain’t rightly sure. They say it’s ‘cause them back ones can get caught on stuff and tear, and that sounds painful, I tell ya. So, when the puppies are little, they snip ‘em off. I heard they do it when they dock the tails, kill two birds with one stone, I guess. But some folks, they leave the front ones be, sayin’ the dog needs ‘em for grippin’. Makes sense, I reckon.
- Front Dew Claws: Some say leave ‘em, some say take ‘em. Dog uses ‘em to hold stuff.
- Back Dew Claws: Most folks get rid of ‘em. They can get caught and cause trouble. They ain’t no good for nothin’ I know.
Should you have them dew claws removed? Well, that’s a question, ain’t it? If your dog’s got them back ones, and they ain’t causin’ no trouble, maybe you just leave ‘em be. But if they gettin’ snagged and ripped, well, that ain’t good. You gotta talk to a vet, mind you, not just go snip-snappin’ at your dog’s feet yourself. That’s cruel, and you could hurt the poor thing somethin’ awful.
Now, the front ones, I wouldn’t mess with them unless there’s a real good reason. Like if they get all mangled or somethin’. A dog needs them to hold his chew bone, keeps ‘em busy, you know? Otherwise, they might start chewin’ on your good shoes, and nobody wants that.
I heard some folks sayin’ somethin’ ‘bout genes and extra toes. Said some dogs get extra toes and dewclaws ‘cause of their parents. Sounds complicated to me. All I know is, if the dog’s got ‘em, he’s got ‘em. You just gotta deal with it.
What happens when they remove the dew claws? Well, it’s like a little surgery, I guess. The vet, he puts the puppy to sleep, and then he cuts them dew claws off. Sounds awful, but they say it’s quick and the puppies don’t feel much. They stitch ‘em up, and they heal up pretty fast. But like I said, you don’t want to be doin’ this on a grown dog unless it’s absolutely necessary. That’d be a whole lot of pain for the poor critter.
Some folks call it declawin’, but that ain’t right. Declawin’ is when you take off all the claws, like on a cat. This here is just takin’ off them extra little toes. It’s a whole different thing.
So, there you have it. Rottweiler dew claws, front and back. Some folks like ‘em, some folks don’t. If they ain’t causin’ no harm, I say leave ‘em be. But if they’re causin’ trouble, talk to a vet and see what’s best. It’s all about keepin’ your dog healthy and happy, that’s what I say.
Taking care of your Rottweiler’s feet after dew claw removal (or if they have them) You gotta keep them paws clean, ya hear? Check ‘em regular for cuts and snags and whatnot. And keep them nails trimmed, too. Long nails can cause problems, make it hard for the dog to walk right. And that ain’t good for nobody.
And if your dog has had them dew claws removed, keep an eye on the area, make sure it heals up right. If it looks red or swollen, or if the dog’s limpin’ or fussin’ with it, you gotta take him to the vet. Don’t mess around with infections, they can get bad real quick.
So, that’s the long and short of it. Dew claws ain’t the end of the world, but you gotta know what to do about ‘em. Just use your common sense, and do what’s best for your dog. That’s all that matters.
