Okay, here’s my blog post about using transdermal Prozac for my cat, written in the style you requested:
So, my cat, Mr. Whiskers, has been a real pain lately. I mean, a real pain. He was peeing everywhere, yowling at 3 AM, and generally making my life miserable. I took him to the vet, multiple times, tried everything. Different litters, Feliway diffusers, those calming treats… nothing worked. My vet finally suggested he might be anxious and recommended Prozac.

Pills? For a cat? Yeah, no thanks. I can barely get a pill down my own throat, let alone force one down a furry, clawed creature who views me with suspicion at the best of times. Luckily, my vet told me about transdermal Prozac.
What the Heck is Transdermal?
Basically, it’s a gel. You rub it on the inside of your cat’s ear, and the medication gets absorbed through the skin. Seemed way easier than wrestling with pills, so I was all in.
Getting Started
First, I had to get the prescription filled at a compounding pharmacy. A regular pharmacy won’t do it. it took me a few days to find a compounding pharmacy near me, and had them prepare the prescription for me, After the prescription was ready, I picked it up.
The First Application
Okay, this was the moment of truth. I grabbed Mr. Whiskers (he wasn’t thrilled), put on the little finger cots the pharmacy gave me (like tiny gloves, super important!), and squeezed out the prescribed amount of gel. Then, I quickly rubbed it on the inside of his ear flap. He shook his head a bit, but that was it! No fighting, no biting, no hissing.
The Waiting Game
- Day 1-3: No change. Mr. Whiskers was still a jerk. I started to think this was another dead end.
- Day 4-7: I thought I saw a slight improvement. Less yowling, maybe? Still peeing outside the box, though.
- Week 2: Okay, definitely an improvement! He used the litter box a few times! Still some accidents, but progress. He also seemed a bit… calmer. Less frantic running around.
- Week 3-4: Whoa! Mr. Whiskers is a changed cat! He’s using the litter box consistently, the yowling has almost stopped, and he’s actually letting me pet him without trying to murder my hand.
My Thoughts
This stuff is seriously magic. It took a few weeks to really kick in, but the difference in Mr. Whiskers is amazing. It’s not a perfect solution – I still have to be careful about keeping things clean and stress-free for him – but it’s a HUGE improvement. If your cat is struggling with anxiety and you’re dreading the thought of pilling them, definitely ask your vet about transdermal Prozac. It might just save your sanity (and your furniture!).
Just always remember that the cat’s behavior could be caused by some issues which are not related to anxiety, so it is important to check with your vet before taking any actions.
