Okay, so today I’m gonna share my little adventure, how I ended up actually finding some blue Russian cats near me. It was a bit of a journey, let me tell ya.
It all started last week. My kid, bless his heart, got super into wanting a cat. Not just any cat, a fancy-pants “blue Russian” cat. I had no clue what that even was, so first thing I did? Google it, duh!

Step 1: The Google Deep Dive
- Typed “blue russian cats near me” into the search bar. Obvious, right?
- Got a bunch of websites about the breed, super helpful…not! Mostly just pictures of fluffy grey cats.
- Then I saw a few breeder websites. Looked promising, but a little…spammy? You know the type.
I decided to ditch the general search and get a little more specific.
Step 2: Breeder Hunting
- Searched specifically for “reputable blue russian breeders [my city]”.
- This time, I found a couple of breeders that looked legit. Real websites, contact info, even some customer reviews.
- Called one. Got a voicemail. Boo.
- Called the other. Actually got someone! She sounded nice, said she had a litter of kittens. Score!
Step 3: The Vet Check Veto
Now, before I got too excited, I did some digging. I googled ” reviews” and found some concerning stuff about their cats having health problems. Sketchy!
I decided to try another strategy
Step 4: Shelters and Rescues – My Hero Arc

- Thought, “Hey, maybe I can adopt!”
- Went to the local animal shelter website. No luck with blue Russians specifically.
- Then I checked Petfinder. Boom! Found a couple of cats that LOOKED like they might be blue Russians, or at least mixes.
Step 5: The Meet and Greet
- Emailed the rescue organization. They replied quick, set up a visit for the next day.
- Went to the foster home where the cats were staying. Met the cutest little grey kitten!
Step 6: The Snuggle Test & The Final Decision
The kitten was super friendly, playful, and seemed healthy. The foster mom knew a lot about its history. Felt like a good fit.
So, yeah, that’s how I ended up finding a (probably) blue Russian cat near me. It wasn’t as easy as just Googling and buying, but I’m glad I took the time to do my research. And now we have a new furry family member!
