Alright, so I needed to register my cattery with TICA, The International Cat Association. I wasn’t sure how to do it, so I started with a simple search online. Turns out, it’s not that complicated, but there are a few steps you gotta follow.

First thing I did was go to the TICA website and looked for something called “TFMS.” Apparently, that’s where all the online services are. Found a section for catteries and clicked on “Register a Cattery”. Of course, I didn’t have an account yet, so I had to create one. That was pretty straightforward, just the usual stuff like name, email, password, and all that.

Once I was logged in, I started the registration process. They asked for my cattery name, my contact details, and some info about the breeds I work with. I filled everything out carefully, making sure all the details were correct.

  • Had to choose a cattery name. This took some thinking!
  • Provided my contact info. Pretty standard.
  • Listed the breeds I’m working with. Just a few for now.

Then came the payment part. It’s $75 if you’re already a TICA member, and $80 if you’re not. I wasn’t a member, so I paid the $80. Not too bad, I guess. They took a credit card, so that was easy.

After I paid, they said it would take a little while to process everything. I got an email confirming my application, which was good. It said they’d review it and get back to me.

While I was waiting, I did some more reading on the TICA site. Found out that registering individual cats is a separate thing. If both parents are registered with TICA, it’s like $35 to register a kitten. You gotta register the whole litter first, and then each kitten individually. I also saw someone mention that transferring a cat from the breeder to you is about $10, and sometimes the breeder covers that cost. Good to know!

I also learned that you can register your cats with other associations like CCA or CFA without registering your cattery name with them. I guess that makes sense if you’re just starting out or don’t want the official cattery title.

Anyway, I’m still waiting to hear back about my cattery registration. Hopefully, it all goes through smoothly. Once it’s approved, I’ll be all set to officially register my litters and kittens with TICA. It’s a bit of a process, but it’s all part of being a responsible breeder, I suppose.

Oh, and I found a video on the TICA site about registering a cat from a breeder slip. Looks pretty simple. You just go to TFMS, click “Register a Cat,” and enter the info from the slip. Seems like they’ve tried to make things as easy as possible.

So, that’s where I’m at now. Fingers crossed for the approval! I’ll update when I hear back. It’s a bit of a waiting game, but I’m excited to get everything official. I am sure that TICA is considered the world’s largest genetic cat registry, so I must do this!
