My dog, he likes to eat that deer meat, what they call venison. He gobbles it up. I heard it’s good for him, that venison dog food. So I’m gonna tell you what I know about it.
What’s Venison for Dogs?
Well, it’s that deer meat. You know, like Bambi, but for dogs. They make dog food out of it now. Fancy, huh? But it ain’t just fancy, it’s good for them, I reckon. It’s meat, and dogs, they need meat.
Why That Venison Dog Food is Good
They say it’s got all kinds of good stuff. Like them B vitamins, they call it. My old bones need those vitamins, and so do the dogs, I guess. And it’s got that zinc stuff, and something called phosphorus. Don’t rightly know what those are, but they sound important. It helps dogs, you know.
- Good for their belly. Some dogs, they get a rumbly tummy with regular food. This venison, it’s different. Easier on their insides, they say.
- Lots of good stuff in it. Like I said, vitamins and that zinc stuff. Keeps them healthy and strong, like a good farm dog.
- Dogs love it. My dog, he goes crazy for it. Licks the bowl clean, every time. He’s a picky eater, usually. But he love that venison.
Cook That Venison
Don’t be feedin’ them raw deer meat, you hear? That ain’t good. Gotta cook it up, make sure it’s safe. You cook it just like you cook for folks, I guess. Get rid of all them little bugs that can make a dog sick. Cook that venison for your dog, real good. It can make them have a bad belly if you don’t.
When you give your dog new food, do it slow. Their bellies gotta get used to it. Mix a little bit of that venison dog food with their old food, at first. Then give ’em more and more venison, less and less of the old stuff. That’s the way to do it. So they don’t get the runs. That’s what my neighbor did, and her dog was just fine.

They say that venison is a “novel protein.” Sounds fancy, don’t it? Just means it’s a kind of meat most dogs ain’t had before. So if your dog’s got allergies or a sensitive tummy, this might be the ticket. My dog had that itchy skin, and the vet, he said try venison. Cleared right up, it did.
More Reasons Why Venison is Good
I heard some folks say it’s good for dogs that need to lose a little weight. It’s lean, you see. Not much fat on it. Good for dogs that are gettin’ a little chunky around the middle. Like my neighbor’s poodle. He can’t jump that well anymore. He needs to lose some weight.
- Good for skin and fur. That’s what I heard. Makes their coat shiny and soft. My dog, his fur was all dull before. Now it’s shiny, like a new penny.
- Helps with them allergies. Like I said, if your dog’s always scratchin’ or lickin’, this venison might help. It did for my dog.
- Gives them energy. My dog, he’s got more pep in his step since he started eatin’ venison. Runs around like a pup again.
How Much Venison to Give
Don’t give them too much, now. Just like with people food, you gotta give them the right amount. Talk to your vet, he’ll tell you how much venison dog food your dog needs. Depends on how big they are, how much they run around, all that. My vet, he’s a good one. Knows all about dogs and what they should eat. That vet, he knows his stuff.
Venison Dog Food, All the Time?
Some folks, they feed their dogs nothin’ but venison. I don’t know about that. Seems like a dog might need other things, too. But I ain’t no expert. Just make sure they’re gettin’ all the stuff they need to be healthy. Vitamins and such. You can ask the vet about that, too.
Cooked or Raw? Cooked!
Remember what I said, now. Cooked venison is the way to go. Don’t give ’em raw meat. That’s how they get sick. Cook it up good, just like you’d cook your own supper. It’s easy, just boil it. It’s good for them, that venison dog food. You can put it in the oven, too, if you like.
Trying New Food
Like I said before, if you’re gonna switch your dog to venison dog food, do it slow. Mix it with their old food. Their tummies gotta get used to it. If you just give ’em a whole bowl of venison right off the bat, they might get sick. Slow and steady, that’s the way. Then they can eat that venison all the time.
