Okay, so I wanted to make a dog toy ball with a rope for my furry friend, Max. He loves to play fetch and tug-of-war, so I thought, why not combine the two? It seemed simple enough, and I had most of the materials lying around the house.
Gathering Supplies
First, I grabbed an old tennis ball. It was pretty worn out, but still had some bounce in it. Then, I found a length of sturdy rope in the garage. It was maybe about three feet long, leftover from some project I can’t even remember. I made sure it was thick and durable because Max is a strong chewer.
Making the Toy
I started by making a hole in the tennis ball. This was a little tricky. I used a sharp knife and carefully poked a hole on one side, then made another hole directly opposite to it. The holes needed to be big enough for the rope to fit through, but not so big that the rope would slip out easily.
Next, I threaded the rope through the holes. I pushed one end of the rope into one hole and pulled it out through the other. It took a bit of wiggling, but I finally got it through. Then, I tied a big knot at each end of the rope. I made sure the knots were super tight so they wouldn’t come undone when Max was playing.
Testing It Out
With the toy finished, it was time for the fun part – testing it out with Max! I took him to the backyard and showed him his new toy. He got so excited! He immediately grabbed the ball and started running around. I held onto the rope, and we had a great game of tug-of-war. He seemed to love it!
Final Thoughts
This DIY dog toy was a big success. It was easy to make, and it’s been providing Max with hours of fun. Plus, it’s a great way to reuse old stuff instead of throwing it away. It is super cheap and the dog loves it very much. This is a successful DIY.
I’m definitely going to make more of these in the future. Maybe I’ll even try using different materials, like an old t-shirt instead of rope. The possibilities are endless!
- Find a tennis ball.
- Grab a sturdy rope.
- Make two holes in the ball.
- Thread the rope through.
- Tie knots on each end.
- Playtime!
Just be sure to supervise your dog while they’re playing with any toy, especially a homemade one, to make sure they don’t accidentally swallow any pieces.
