Okay, so I’ve been wanting to get more involved in animal rescue for a while now, and I’ve always had a soft spot for Siberian Huskies. I mean, those eyes, that fur… who can resist? So, I decided to check out the “Siberian Husky Rescue of New Mexico” and see how I could help. I was a little nervous and not sure what it was, but I was eager to learn how I could get involved.
My First Step: Research
First thing I did was do some looking around online. I wanted to get a feel for what they do. So, I tried to learn as much as possible about their mission, how they operate, and what kind of help they might need.
Reaching Out
After gathering some basic information, I took a leap of faith and contacted the rescue directly. I think I sent an email, I can’t quite recall. But I introduced myself, expressed my interest in helping out, and asked about volunteer opportunities. I kept it simple. I just explained that I loved Huskies and wanted to contribute in any way I could.
Getting Involved: What I Did
- Fostering: This turned out to be a big one! I decided to open my home to a rescued Husky temporarily. It was a bit of a learning curve, figuring out the dog’s personality, any special needs, and just generally making them feel safe and comfortable. It was truly rewarding, though, seeing a scared dog start to relax and trust.
- Paperwork: Yup, even dog rescue involves paperwork! I helped a little bit, with applications, adoption forms, and stuff like that. It wasn’t the most glamorous part, but it was necessary.
The Outcome
Honestly, getting involved with the Siberian Husky Rescue of New Mexico has been amazing. I’ve met some awesome people, learned a ton about dog behavior and care, and, most importantly, helped some beautiful Huskies find their forever homes. It’s hard work sometimes, but it’s so worth it. Fostering is a big thing because it gives these dogs a chance to decompress and get ready for a real family. If you are thinking about animal rescue, I say do a little research and go for it!
