Okay, so I’ve been wanting to see what happens when you mix a Siberian Husky and a Yorkshire Terrier for a while now. I mean, you got this big, fluffy, working dog and this tiny, feisty, little lap dog. What could go wrong, right? Turns out, quite a bit, or maybe not much at all, it is a toss up!
First, I found a reputable breeder who had some experience with this mix. This wasn’t easy, let me tell you. Not a lot of people are intentionally breeding these two. But after a lot of digging and a few awkward phone calls, I found someone who seemed to know what they were doing.

Then came the waiting game. I had to wait for a litter to be born. This time was full of anxiety. When they finally arrived, I picked out the cutest little pup of the bunch. He was mostly gray and white, like a Husky, but small, like a Yorkie. I named him “Bandit” because he already looked like a little troublemaker.
Bringing Bandit home was…an experience. He was a tiny ball of energy. One minute he was trying to climb the curtains, and the next he was passed out cold on my lap. He was a real handful, but hey, I asked for it. I started training him right away. Huskies are known for being stubborn, and Yorkies are known for being yappy. So I had my work cut out for me. We worked on basic commands like “sit,” “stay,” and “no biting the furniture!”
After a few weeks, Bandit was starting to settle in. He learned his commands pretty quickly, though he still had that mischievous glint in his eye. Potty training was a bit of a nightmare. I guess he has the small bladder of a Yorkie and the stubbornness of a Husky. But we got there, eventually.
Now, a few months in, Bandit is a bit bigger but still pretty small. He definitely has the Husky look, but his size is all Yorkie. He’s got a thick, fluffy coat that needs constant brushing. Oh man, the shedding! I feel like I am always sweeping up hair. He’s got that classic Husky howl, which is hilarious coming from such a small dog. He thinks he’s a big, bad wolf, which is fun to watch.
- Exercise: He needs a lot of it! We go for walks and play fetch in the yard.
- Grooming: Like I said, the shedding is insane. Daily brushing is a must.
- Personality: He’s a clown! Always making me laugh. Super playful and affectionate.
All in all, this little experiment has been a wild ride. Bandit is a unique dog with a big personality. He’s a lot of work, but he’s also a lot of fun. Would I recommend getting a Siberian Husky and Yorkie mix? Maybe, if you’re prepared for a challenge and you’ve got a good vacuum cleaner! It’s definitely not a dog for everyone, but if you got the time and patience, it might be right up your alley!
What I’ve Learned
- This mix is unpredictable! You never really know what you’re gonna get.
- They can be stubborn, so early training is key.
- Be prepared for a lot of shedding and a lot of energy.
- They are fun dogs! Very loyal and loving but with a lot of personality and independence.
So yeah, that’s my story of mixing a Siberian Husky and a Yorkshire Terrier. I learned a ton about both breeds, about dog training, and a little bit about myself. It takes a lot to raise a pup, but it was well worth it!
