Hey everyone, it’s been a while! Today, I wanna share something a bit different that I’ve been messing around with. So, I got this idea to mix a Schnauzer with a Rottweiler, you know, see what kind of cool dog I could get. I did some reading and saw that genes from both parents get passed down, so it seemed like it would work. I heard about this mix, sometimes they call it a “Schnottie,” and they also call it a “Rottweiler Schnauzet” which is a pretty cool name, right? This mix is pretty new, so that was exciting. It’s usually a Standard Schnauzer and a Rottweiler, but I guess sometimes people use a Giant Schnauzer. I went with the Standard one, though.
First, I had to find the dogs. That took some time, going to different breeders and all that. I made sure they were healthy and had all their shots and stuff, and finally I found a good pair. It’s important to make sure these are purebreds. I found a male standard schnauzer, and a female rottweiler for this experiment. I learned that Rottweilers are super old, like, they were with the Romans back in the day. They helped herd cattle and guarded places. Some stayed in Germany and mixed with other dogs there, and that’s how we got Rottweilers. I learned that Schnauzers are fairly smart and good to train, but it sounds like I need to make sure the pup gets along with people and other dogs early on. Otherwise, it might be too protective or not like being around others.
Next, I got them to breed. It took a while, but finally, I had a litter of puppies! They had this cool mix of colors, like sable, brown, and gray. They looked so cute. I checked out some pictures online to see what other people’s Schnauzer-Rottweiler mixes looked like, just to get an idea.
Now, it was time to see what these pups were like. I spent a lot of time with them, playing and training. They were pretty smart, just like the research said. I made sure to introduce them to lots of people and other dogs, like I read about, so they wouldn’t be scared or aggressive later on.
Raising and Observing
Here is what I noticed. This mix is pretty affectionate. They love hanging out and playing, so that’s fun. They also seem like they’d be good watchdogs, kind of like how Rottweilers are. They might be a little unsure around strangers at first, but they warm up.
- Playing: We played fetch and went for walks. They had a good amount of energy.
- Training: I taught them basic commands like sit, stay, and come. They picked it up pretty quick!
- Watching: I just observed how they interacted with each other and with me. It was interesting to see their personalities develop.
After observing them and seeing how they turned out, I’d say this is a pretty cool mix. You get the smarts of the Schnauzer and the loyalty of the Rottweiler. They seem like they’d be great companions. They’re definitely a mix you have to put some work into, especially with the training and socializing, but it seems worth it. I’m pretty happy with how this little experiment turned out. I might even try it again sometime, maybe with a Giant Schnauzer next time, just to see what happens!
