Okay, folks, let me tell you about my little adventure trying to find a Russian Blue cat breeder in NYC. It wasn’t as easy as I thought it would be!
First, I started with a simple online search, just typing in “Russian Blue breeders NYC”. I figured there’d be tons, right? It’s New York City! Well, I got a bunch of results, but it was a mixed bag.

Digging Deeper
I realized pretty quickly that I needed to be careful. I wanted to make sure I was dealing with a reputable breeder, someone who really cared about the cats and not just making a quick buck. So I started looking closely at the websites.
- Some websites looked super professional, with lots of information about the breed and their cattery.
- Others were… well, let’s just say they looked a little sketchy.
I decided to make a list of potential breeders based on their websites and any reviews I could find. I focused on ones that seemed to emphasize the health and well-being of their cats.
Making Contact
Next, I started emailing and calling. This was a whole other experience! Some breeders were super responsive and friendly, answering all my questions. Others, not so much. I even had a few that never responded at all!
I asked a lot of questions. Things like:
- How long have you been breeding Russian Blues?
- Can I see the parents of the kittens?
- Do you do any health testing?
- What’s your process for socializing the kittens?
I learned that good breeders are happy to answer these kinds of questions. They want you to know that their cats are well-cared for.
The waiting game
Then, I found out It’s not enough to say I want this breed of cat, I also have to get on the waiting list!

It was definitely a process, but I’m glad I took the time to do it right. I feel much better knowing that I put in the effort to find a healthy, happy kitten from a breeder who cares.
