Okay, so I’ve been thinking about getting a puppy for a while now, and I’ve always loved both Rottweilers and German Shepherds. Then I stumbled upon this mix – the Rottweiler Shepherd – and I was like, “Whoa, that sounds intense…and awesome!” So, I started digging in.
First, I looked up a bunch of pictures. Seriously, just tons of puppy photos. Some were fluffy, some were sleek, some were all black, others had those classic German Shepherd markings. It was crazy how different they all looked!

Then I moved onto the more serious stuff. I read about their temperament. Apparently, these mixes can be super loyal and protective, which is great, but also means they need a LOT of training and socialization. Like, from day one. I’m talking puppy classes, meeting tons of people and dogs, the whole nine yards.
I also checked out some forums and groups online. People were talking about how much energy these dogs have. We’re not talking a quick walk around the block. These guys need serious exercise, like long hikes, runs, maybe even some kind of dog sport. I started picturing myself throwing a frisbee for hours… I’m gonna need to up my fitness Game!
- Lots of pictures The variety is wider than i expected!
- Temperament Super loyal, protective, need good train.
- Energy Level I even can’t imagine before, It need more exercise than i thought.
I then decided to visit a few local shelters. I didn’t see any Rottweiler Shepherd mixes specifically, but I talked to the staff about the parent breeds. They confirmed what I’d read – smart, energetic dogs that need a firm, consistent owner. One lady even warned me about potential health issues, like hip dysplasia, which both breeds are prone to.
My next step was making a list. Actually several list!
My Lists
- Things to Prepare: Like, a good, strong leash, a crate, chew toys, and a million other things!
- Things to learn: I started researching trainers in my area. I figured I’d need some professional help, especially with a potentially powerful dog like this.
So, after all this, I’m still thinking about it. It’s a big commitment, and I want to make sure I can give a Rottweiler Shepherd mix puppy the best possible life. I’m definitely leaning towards it, but I’m going to keep researching and preparing. Maybe I’ll even try to find a breeder who focuses on health testing, just to be extra careful. It’s a big decision, but the thought of having one of these amazing dogs is super exciting!
