So, you got yourself a Rottie, huh? Good dog, them Rottweilers. Big and strong, need a good place to lay their head. Now, this crate size thing, it ain’t rocket science.
My neighbor, she got one of them Rotties, big fella he was. Biggest dog I ever seen. Used to scare the crows right outta the cornfield. She kept him in a big ol’ crate, plenty of room to move around in. That’s the key, you see, plenty of room.
Crate Size for Rottweiler
You don’t want no tiny little box for a big dog like a Rottweiler. They need space, like a hog needs mud. Gotta be able to stand up, turn around, stretch out. If they can’t do that, they gonna be miserable, and a miserable dog ain’t no good to nobody.
Now, I heard tell of folks using these wire crates. They seem alright, I guess. Let the air flow through, dog can see what’s going on. But make sure it’s a sturdy one. These Rotties are strong, you know. They could bust outta a flimsy crate like it was made of straw.
- Big enough to stand up in.
- Big enough to turn around in.
- Big enough to lay down and stretch out.
Some folks like them plastic crates, too. Kinda like a little dog house, I reckon. Might be good for a dog that likes to chew. Harder to get their teeth into that hard plastic. But make sure it’s got good ventilation. Don’t want your dog getting all hot and bothered in there.
I remember one time, this fella down the road, he got a crate that was way too small for his Rottweiler. Poor dog looked like he was stuffed in a sausage casing. Couldn’t even lift his head up proper. That ain’t right. Dog needs to be comfortable, just like you and me.
Adult Rottweiler Crate
Now, for a full-grown Rottie, you gonna need a big crate. We’re talking big. Like, 48 inches or so. Maybe even bigger, depending on how big your dog is. These ain’t no Chihuahuas, you know. They big dogs, need a big space.
You want your adult Rottweiler have a crate large enough. They are strong dog, need space.
- 48 inches long, maybe more.
- Tall enough for them to stand up straight.
- Wide enough for them to turn around easy.
You see them little crates, the ones they use for them little lap dogs? Forget about it. That ain’t gonna work for a Rottweiler. He’d bust outta that thing like a bull in a china shop.
And don’t be stingy with the bedding, neither. Give them a nice, thick blanket or a dog bed. Something soft to lay on. These dogs, they got big bones, you know. They need some cushioning.
Rottweiler Crate Training
Now, you gotta train them to use the crate, too. Can’t just shove them in there and expect them to like it. Gotta make it a good place. Put some treats in there, a favorite toy. Make it their own little den.
Start them out slow. Just a few minutes at a time. Then longer and longer. Pretty soon, they’ll be going in there on their own. They’ll see it as their safe space. Like a bear in its cave.
- Start with short times in the crate.
- Give them treats and toys in the crate.
- Make it a positive experience.
Don’t be using the crate as punishment neither. That’s just gonna make them hate it. You want them to like their crate, not fear it. My neighbor told that her dog loves the crate so much. That’s a good crate.
So, there you have it. Rottweiler crate size ain’t that complicated. Just use your common sense. Get a crate that’s big enough, make it comfortable, and train them right. Do that, and you and your Rottie will be just fine. Just like me and my chickens, we get along just fine. They got their coop, I got my house, and everybody’s happy. Same goes for your dog and his crate. Everybody needs their own space, that’s what I always say.
These Rottweilers, they good dogs. Loyal. Protective. They’ll watch over you and your family. Just treat them right, give them what they need, and they’ll be your best friend for life. A good crate is important for them. Don’t forget that. A good, big crate. Big enough for them to feel at home. You need to keep that in mind when you are thinking about Rottweiler crate size. The dog needs to be happy in the crate.
