Okay, so I’ve been wanting a dog for, like, forever. And not just any dog, a red lab. I finally decided, “You know what? I’m doing it!” So the journey began.
The Hunt Begins!
First, I started looking. Man, there’s so much stuff out there. I looked online, I guess that’s where every thing starts.

I spent hours scrolling through pictures. Seriously, hours. Red lab puppies everywhere! It was overwhelming, to be honest. There were big breeders, and small breeders, and people who just, like, had a litter of pups.
Narrowing it Down
I knew I wanted a healthy pup, obviously. That was my number one thing. so i had to do it carefully.
- I started reading up on what to look for, health-wise.
- Checked about hips and eyes.
- Tried to figure out how to tell a good breeder from, well, not so good.
It was a lot of work! I made a list. A real, physical list of things I wanted. it’s really important!
Making Contact
I found a few breeders that looked promising. Time to send some emails! It felt weird, like I was applying for a job or something. I asked a ton of questions. I asked them everything i had on my mind!
- “How long have you been breeding?”
- “Can I see the parents?”
- “What’s the temperament of the puppies?”
- “Do you have any health guarantees?”
- “Can you give me contact with some one you did it before?”
I talked to some people, which was good. Got a feel for who I was dealing with. Some were super nice and helpful. Some…not so much.
The Visit!
Finally, I picked one breeder that seemed really great. They were a bit of a drive, but whatever. Puppy time! I went to their place and, oh my goodness, the puppies were even cuter in person! it’s real!
I got to meet the mom and dad, which was cool. The dad was this big, handsome red lab, and the mom was super sweet. The puppies were these little bundles of energy, tumbling all over each other.

I spent hours there, just playing with them and watching them. i was really enjoying, I played with them and watched them.
Picking “The One”
This was the hardest part! They were all so adorable. How do you choose? Finally, I just, like, felt it. There was this one little guy, he kept coming back to me, snuggling up, licking my hand. That was it. He chose me, I guess.
Bringing Him Home
So i did all things. paid the money, signed the papers. Few days go by.
Bringing him home was the best! I had his little crate all set up, with a comfy bed and toys. He was a little scared at first, of course, everything’s new for him. But he settled in pretty quick. He was so small and fluffy! We named him Rusty. Seemed to fit.
Puppy Chaos!
Let me tell you, puppies are a LOT of work! The potty training, the chewing, the endless energy… it’s exhausting! But it’s also the best thing ever. Watching him learn and grow, seeing his personality develop, it’s amazing.
Everyday i see him growing and getting bigger!

So, yeah, that’s my red lab puppy story. It was a process, for sure, but totally, 100% worth it. Now I have my little red buddy, and I wouldn’t trade him for the world. Best decision ever!
