My grandbaby, he come over the other day, talking ’bout pet rock supplies. I said, “What in tarnation is a pet rock?” He says it’s a rock, but you keep it like a pet. Kids these days!
He goes on and on, sayin’ it needs a home and things. I reckon if you gonna have a rock for a pet, you need some stuff for it. I don’t know the first thing of pet rocks supplies! I mean, a rock’s a rock, right? But then, he showed me some pictures, and well, they kinda cute, I guess. With them googly eyes, you know.
Gettin’ Started with Pet Rocks
First thing, you need a rock. Any old rock will do, I reckon. We got plenty out in the yard. Just pick one that looks friendly, I suppose. Then you gotta make it look like a pet. So a rock and some pet rock supplies, that’s how you get start with pet rocks. That’s easy.

- Some googly eyes – make it look alive, kinda

Now, this is where it gets a little silly, if you ask me. But the young’uns, they love it. You gotta make a little home for your pet rock. Like a nest, but for a rock. This is important for pet rock supplies.
Some folks use a box. A little cardboard box, like the ones them shoes come in. You can put some straw in there, make it all comfy. Or some of them soft cloth scraps. Make it like a bed, I guess. Now, this part, I just don’t get. They say you gotta feed your pet rock. But it’s a rock! It don’t eat! My grandbaby, he says it’s pretend. Like playin’ house, but with a rock. So you just put some little pebbles next to it. That’s the rock’s food, he says. And they all about pet rock supplies! Even food.
And get this, they even say you can train your pet rock. Like it’s a dog or somethin’. They tell it to “roll over” and push it down a hill. Or “play dead” and it just sits there. ‘Cause it’s a rock! It don’t do nothin’. But the kids, they love it. They say the rock’s well-trained.
I don’t know the first thing about how to feed a rock. But my grandbaby said rock can find its own food. So I guess you don’t need to worry about it. It’s a rock, so you don’t need to feed it.
Why Folks Like Pet Rocks
I asked my grandbaby, “Why you like this pet rock so much?” He says it’s fun. And it don’t make no mess. And it don’t bark or meow or need to go outside. It just sits there. A quiet pet, I guess. And you don’t have to feed it or clean up after it. That’s why people like it. They don’t need to worry about it.
Some folks say it’s good for kids. Helps ’em learn ’bout takin’ care of things. Like a real pet, but easier. I guess that makes sense. And it don’t cost much. I still don’t understand about pet rock, but I think it’s good. Kids like it, and it don’t cost too much. And, it is kinda cute. Maybe I will get one for myself, too. And find some pet rock supplies. I think I will like it, too.
