Well, let me tell ya, there’s always somethin’ happenin’ in that St. Pete place. My grandson, he’s always readin’ about it on that phone of his. Always somethin’ new, he says.

Just the other day, he was yappin’ about some new buildin’ they put up. Big tall thing, with lots of glass. Said it’s for fancy folks, with fancy apartments and shops. Don’t know what they need all that glass for, seems like a waste to me. Probably gotta clean it all the time.
Then there was talk about some fella, a mayor or somethin’. Got in some kinda trouble, they said. Somethin’ about money, I think. Seems like these folks in high places are always fiddlin’ with money, don’t they? Always gettin’ caught, too. My old man used to say, “Honesty is the best policy,” but I don’t think these city slickers heard that one.
Heard there was a big storm, too. Blew things all over the place. Trees down, roads flooded. Always happens when the weather gets all riled up. Folks always gotta go cleanin’ up after. Seems like a lot of work, if you ask me. We used to just hunker down and wait it out.
- Now, my grandson, he likes to talk about them sports teams down there. Says they play with balls and bats and such. Don’t really understand it myself. Seems like a lot of runnin’ around for nothin’. But folks get all worked up over it, cheerin’ and yellin’. Waste of good energy, I say.
- He also mentioned some kinda art thing. People paintin’ pictures and makin’ statues. Said they put it all up in a park for folks to look at. Don’t see the point, myself. Why paint a picture when you can just look at the real thing? And statues, they just sit there, doin’ nothin’.
Then there’s all them restaurants. My grandson showed me pictures, fancy food on little plates. Costs a fortune, he says. Don’t know why anyone would pay so much for a bite of food. We used to eat good food right from the garden, didn’t cost a dime. Just good, honest cookin’.
And the beaches! My grandson always shows me pictures of the sand and the water. Says folks like to lay out there and get all tanned. Seems silly to me. We used to work out in the sun all day, didn’t need to lay around on the beach. And that water, looks nice in the pictures, but I bet it’s full of critters.

Seems like there’s always somethin’ goin’ on in that St. Pete. Busy, busy, busy. Folks runnin’ around, spendin’ money, doin’ all sorts of things. Don’t know why they need all that excitement. Give me a quiet porch and a glass of lemonade any day.
But, I guess folks like what they like. Just seems like a whole lotta fuss to me. But my grandson, he loves readin’ about it. Keeps him entertained, he says. And I guess that’s somethin’.
