Alright, let’s talk about this XL kennel thing, ya know, the big thing for dogs. I seen them advertised all over and heard folks yappin’ about ’em. So, what’s the big deal? Well, lemme tell ya what I figured out.
First off, why do ya need a big ol’ kennel? Well, if you got a big dog, like one of them German Shepherds or a Lab, ya can’t just stuff ’em in a little box, right? They need room to stretch, turn around, and lie down comfy-like. A big dog in a small kennel is like you tryin’ to wear your grandkid’s shoes, it just ain’t right. So, that’s the first thing, size matters, especially for them bigger fellas.
- Big dog needs a big kennel.
- Little dog, well, you can figure that out.
Now, I seen some kennels that are just metal bars, like a cage. And then there are those fancy ones that look like little houses. The metal ones, they’re tough, ya know? Your dog ain’t gonna chew through that, no sir. And they let in lots of air, so your pup don’t get all hot and bothered. But them fancy ones, they look nicer, maybe keep the dog warmer in the winter, I reckon. It all depends on what you need and how much money you wanna spend, I guess.
Some of these kennels, they fold up, which is mighty handy if you ain’t got much space or if you wanna take it with ya on a trip. I heard some folks even fly their dogs in these things. Imagine that, a dog flyin’ in a box! The world’s gone crazy, I tell ya. But if you do that, make sure it’s one of them airline-approved ones, with the holes for straps and all that. Don’t want your dog rollin’ around in the cargo hold, no sir.
Another thing to think about is the door. Some got one door, some got two. Two doors might be easier if you wanna put the kennel in a tight spot, ya know, so you can open it from either side. And make sure that door latches good. You don’t want your dog escapin’ and tearin’ up the house while you’re gone. My neighbor’s dog did that once, chewed right through the couch. Cost him a pretty penny, I tell ya.
Then there’s the bottom of the kennel. Some got pans in ‘em, which is good if your dog has an accident. Easy to clean up, ya know? And you want somethin’ that ain’t gonna leak all over the floor. Nobody wants dog pee on their carpet, that’s for sure. So, look for one of them leak-proof pans, it’ll save ya a lot of hassle.

Now, where can ya get these kennels? Well, I seen ‘em at all sorts of places. Target, Walmart, even online. Wayfair, they got a bunch, I heard. Prices all over the place, too. You can spend a hundred bucks or more for a real fancy one, or you can find somethin’ cheaper if you ain’t too picky. Just make sure it’s sturdy and the right size for your dog. That’s the most important thing.
And one last thing, don’t just shove your dog in the kennel and forget about it. They need time to get used to it. Make it a comfy place for them, put in a blanket or a toy. And don’t leave ‘em in there all day long, that ain’t fair. They need to run around and play, just like us. A kennel is just a safe place for them to rest and hang out, not a jail.
So, there you have it, my two cents on XL kennels. Big enough for big dogs, tough enough to hold ‘em, and comfy enough for them to feel safe. Just do your research, find one that fits your needs and your budget, and your dog will be happy as a clam. At least as happy as a dog can be in a box, that is.
