Okay, so I’ve been totally obsessed with Maine Coon cats lately. I mean, who isn’t? They’re like these majestic, fluffy lions, but you know, small enough to cuddle. I’ve got this friend up in New England who breeds them, and I’ve been thinking about making a trip to finally get my own.

I started by, you know, diving deep into the internet. It was time to get educated. I needed to know everything.

The Research Phase (It Got Serious)

  • Finding Breeders: First thing, I started looking up Maine Coon breeders in New England. I made a big list, checked out their websites (some were pretty old-school!), and read tons of reviews.
  • Learning About the Breed: I wanted to be a responsible owner, so I read everything I could find about Maine Coons. Their personalities, their grooming needs (so. much. fur.), potential health issues – the whole nine yards.
  • Talking to People: I joined a couple of online forums and Facebook groups for Maine Coon owners. It was awesome to connect with people who actually live with these cats and get their real-life experiences.

After all this research, I felt like I was starting to become a mini-expert. It was more than just liking pretty pictures; I wanted to understand these cats.

Making Contact and Planning

Next, I started emailing some of the breeders I’d found. I asked a bunch of questions, you know, about their cats’ lineage, their health testing practices, and how they raise their kittens. A few breeders were super responsive and helpful, which was a good sign.

I finally narrowed it down to a couple of breeders that I really liked. One was in Maine, another in New Hampshire. Perfect – a New England road trip was starting to take shape!

The Trip!

Okay, this was the exciting part. I booked a couple of nights in a cute little bed and breakfast, packed my bags (and a cat carrier, just in case!), and hit the road. The drive up through New England was gorgeous, especially with the fall colors.

I visited the first breeder, and wow. Their cats were stunning. Seriously, like something out of a magazine. I spent hours playing with the kittens, talking to the breeder, and learning even more about Maine Coons. It felt right.

Then I went and spent some more time with the cats and the breeder. They were so kind and patient and you could tell how well they cared for the cats, that’s important.

Finally, the day came to bring my new friend home, and it was awesome.

So yeah, that’s my Maine Coon in New England story! It was a bit of a journey, but totally worth it. These cats are truly special, and I’m so glad I took the time to do it right.
