Okay, so I’ve been thinking about getting a super fluffy, adorable cat, and I kept seeing these pictures of “teacup Persians.” They’re like, ridiculously cute, tiny little balls of fluff. I got it in my head that I needed one. So, my journey began, and let me tell you, it was a bit of a rollercoaster.
First, I started googling “teacup persian cattery” like crazy. I wanted to find a place that had these mini-Persians. I imagined myself holding this tiny, perfect little creature. I scrolled through tons of websites, looking at pictures of kittens. Some places had waiting lists, some didn’t have any “teacups” available, and some just looked…well, a little sketchy, to be honest.

Then, I started getting into the nitty-gritty, and I realized the whole “teacup” thing is a bit controversial, it is not a real size and just means that a cat is way smaller than the standard.
I wanted to be responsible, so I did more research.I realized that getting a super tiny cat could come with a lot of health problems. It’s not always the best thing for the kitty, I am more aware of the “breeder” situations.
Finding Some Options
- I made a list of a few catteries that at least looked reputable from their websites. I wanted to avoid any place that felt like a kitten mill.
- Next, I started reading reviews. I dug through online forums and tried to see what other people were saying about these places. Some had good reviews, some had mixed reviews, and a few had some really bad reviews that made me immediately cross them off my list.
Making Contact
After that I calling and emailing. I reached out to the catteries that still seemed promising. I asked a ton of questions: How long have you been breeding? Do you do health testing? Can I see pictures of the parents? Can I visit the cattery? Some breeders were super responsive and helpful, others were kind of vague or didn’t get back to me at all.
Visiting(a bit scary, to be honest)
I actually went to visit one cattery that was relatively close to me. I wanted to see the kittens and the environment in person. I was looking to see if the place was clean, if the cats seemed happy and healthy, and if the breeder seemed knowledgeable and caring. This visit gave me very good feelings.
Making a Decision(or not!)
Honestly, after doing all this, I’m still not 100% sure. It’s a big decision! I’m leaning towards getting a Persian, but maybe not a “teacup” one, just because I am thinking about the cat’s health, first. It is just a lot to consider, and I want to make sure I’m doing the right thing, for me and for the kitty!
I’ll keep you guys updated on what I decide. It’s definitely been a learning experience, and I’m trying my best to be a responsible future cat owner!
