Alright, let’s gab about them golden dogs, you know, the grown-up ones. Adult Golden Retrievers, yeah, that’s what they call ’em. Fancy name for a dog, if you ask me.
Now, these dogs, they ain’t puppies no more. They’re big, they’re fluffy, and they got a lot of energy, though not as much as them young’uns. People say they’re kinda in-between, not too wild, not too lazy. Just right, I guess, for some folks.

- They need lookin’ after, though. Ears, gotta check them floppy ears every week, make sure no nasty stuff’s growin’ in there.
- And teeth! Imagine that, gotta brush a dog’s teeth. Every day, they say. With special dog toothpaste, mind you. Not the stuff we use.
- Vet, gotta take ’em to the vet every year. Just like us, I reckon, gotta get checked out. Make sure they’re healthy and whatnot.
But listen, when they’re teenagers, these goldens, they’re a handful. Like, from six months to two years old. They’re all over the place, zoomin’ around, forgettin’ everything you taught ’em. Acting up, just like those human teenagers, you know? Giving their folks a hard time. My grandson, he was like that. Always into somethin’. But you gotta be patient, gotta keep at it. Play with ’em, run ’em around, tire ’em out. That’s the trick, they say.
Most of these goldens, they calm down eventually, around two or three years old. Some take longer, maybe four years. But they get there. They become good dogs, loyal and friendly. That’s what people like about ’em, I think. They’re good company.
Leaving them alone, that’s somethin’ you gotta think about. You can’t just leave ’em all day, you know. Three to six hours, that’s about it. Maybe eight hours if you really have to. But they need you, they get lonely. Just like us, I guess. Nobody wants to be alone all the time.
Now, about them old goldens, the senior ones. They’re different, you see. Slower, maybe a little achy. They need special care. Just like us when we get old. You gotta be gentle with them, make sure they’re comfortable. They ain’t gonna be runnin’ around like they used to.
These golden dogs, they live a good long time, ten or twelve years, sometimes more. They go through different stages, like we do. Puppyhood, then that crazy teenage stage, then the grown-up years, and finally, the golden years. It’s a whole life, you know? And they’re with you the whole time, part of the family.
I’ve seen a lot of dogs in my time, all kinds. But these goldens, they’re somethin’ special. They’re friendly, they’re loyal, and they’re always happy to see you. What more could you want in a dog? They need lookin’ after, sure, but don’t all creatures? And they give it back to you tenfold, that love and companionship. That’s what matters, in the end.
So, if you’re thinkin’ about gettin’ a golden, a grown-up one, remember what I said. They need attention, they need exercise, and they need love. But they’ll give you all that back, and more. They’ll be your best friend, your companion, your furry shadow. And that’s a pretty good deal, if you ask me.

And don’t forget, taking care of a golden retriever means regular check-ups, good food, and plenty of love. It ain’t rocket science, it’s just common sense. Treat ’em right, and they’ll treat you right. That’s the way it should be, with dogs and with people. It’s a simple thing, really.
