Okay, here is my blog post about building a kitchen island with a pet feeding station:
So, I’ve always hated having my dog’s food and water bowls just sitting out in the corner of the kitchen. It looked messy and they were always getting kicked over. I saw this idea online about making a feeding station, built right into the kitchen island. I thought, “I can do that!”

First, I measured the space where my old island was and drew up some rough plans. I wanted it to be a bit bigger than the old one, with space on one end for the feeding station. I figured out how much wood I needed, what kind of countertop I wanted, and what color to paint it.
Then came the fun part – shopping! I went to the home improvement store and loaded up my cart with lumber, screws, paint, and a nice big piece of butcher block for the countertop. I also picked out some cute new food and water bowls for my furry friend.
Back home, I cleared out the old island and got to work. I’m pretty handy, so building the frame was no big deal. I cut the wood, screwed it all together, and made sure it was level. It is important to build a stable base.
Next, I attached the butcher block to the top. This was a bit tricky because it was heavy, but I managed to get it on there nice and secure. I cut out a space at one end of the island, where the bowls would go.
- Sanded everything down to make it smooth.
- Painted the whole thing a nice shade of gray that matched my kitchen cabinets.
- Waited for it to dry.
Finally, I put the new bowls in their spot, filled them up, and called my dog over. He loved it! No more tripping over bowls, and it looks so much better in my kitchen. This was such a fun project, and I’m really happy with how it turned out. Building a kitchen island with pet feeding station is so great!
