Alright, let’s talk about dog food. I’ve been on a bit of a mission to find the best grub for my furry friend, and it’s been quite the journey. My dog has been eating Kirkland Salmon from Costco, and I recently tried out Purina Pro Plan to see how they stack up against each other.
First off, finding the right food was a bigger headache than I expected. So many brands, so many promises! It’s like everyone claims to have the secret sauce for a happy, healthy pup. Started looking into it last July, reading those tiny ingredient lists and trying to figure out what’s what.

- I kicked things off with Kirkland. It’s a Costco exclusive, and let me tell you, the price is right. You get a lot of food without emptying your wallet, which is always a plus.
- But then there’s Purina Pro Plan. Heard a lot about it, especially from vets. Seems like it’s the go-to for a lot of them.
Switched my dog over to Purina, and I started noticing a few things. For starters, my dog’s energy level went way up. We’re talking zoomies like I’ve never seen. And his coat? Super shiny. Plus, the vet gave him a thumbs up at his last check-up, which was great.
Here’s the kicker
Purina Pro Plan has a ton of options tailored to specific health issues. I know they use a lot of protein, which is why my dog got all that energy.
Kirkland is good, no doubt, especially if you’re watching your budget. But it doesn’t have all those special formulas that Purina does. And when I started comparing prices seriously, I saw that Kirkland is cheaper than Purina. So, I began to switch my dog’s food from Kirkland to Purina at the end of this September.
So, after all this trial and error, I’m sticking with Purina Pro Plan. Yeah, it’s a bit pricier, but seeing my dog so happy and healthy makes it worth it. Plus, knowing it’s vet-approved gives me some peace of mind. At the end of the day, it’s all about what’s best for our four-legged pals, right?
