Alright, so my little buddy, Max, he’s a fluffy Pomeranian, you know, needed his kennel cough shot. I mean, we go to the dog park pretty often, and I heard some nasty stories about kennel cough going around, so I figured better safe than sorry, right?
So, I took him to our usual vet. The vet, she’s a good one, always very thorough, explained everything to me. She said that the shot, it’s called the Bordetella vaccine, is usually no big deal for dogs. But, like any shot, there could be a few little things to watch out for.

She mentioned that some dogs get a bit sore where they get the shot, or maybe even a little itchy. She also said he might be a bit sleepy or not as hungry as usual, but that’s all normal stuff and it usually goes away pretty quick.
The one thing she did kind of warn me about was that he might get a bit of a cough or a runny nose for a few days. It’s like a super mild version of what the shot is protecting him from. She assured me it’s nothing to freak out about, though.
I was a little worried, not gonna lie. You always hear those horror stories about vaccines, you know? Rare cases where dogs have big allergic reactions, like swelling or trouble breathing. The vet calmed me down, said that’s super, super rare.
- After the shot, Max was a bit of a drama queen. He whined a little when the vet gave him the shot, but I think it was more the surprise than anything else.
- Later that day, he was definitely more tired than usual. He just curled up on the couch and slept most of the afternoon.
- I did notice he didn’t eat all of his dinner, which is unusual for him, he’s usually a little piggy!
- The next day, he seemed a bit better, but I did hear him sneeze a couple of times.
Conclusion
All in all, Max was totally fine. He’s back to his usual bouncy self now, chasing squirrels and barking at the mailman. I’m really glad I got him vaccinated. It’s just not worth the risk, especially with how much he loves playing with other dogs. Better a little sleepy pup for a day than a sick one for a week, you know? It is way much better than my poor dog get sick seriously. I made a great choice. So, I think it is worth sharing with you guys my experience. Hope you all take good care of your furry friends.
