Is Your Russian Blue Cat Scared? Understanding Their Fear

Okay, so, you wanna know about them Russian Blue cats, huh? Let me tell ya, those fancy-lookin’ critters, all silver and sleek, with eyes like green marbles… they ain’t always easy-peasy. They get scared, just like us folks when a big ol’ thunderstorm rolls in.

What makes ’em jumpy, you ask? Well, for starters, they like things just so. You know, like how I always gotta have my coffee at sunrise? Same with them cats. They get their little routines, and if you mess with that, they get all bothered. Change is a big no-no for these furry fellas. Moving furniture around, havin’ lots of noisy folks over all the time, that kinda stuff, it just throws ’em off. And let me tell ya, a scared Russian Blue? Not a pretty sight. They might start lickin’ themselves bald, poor things.

You gotta understand, they’re kinda like shy little kids. Strangers? They ain’t havin’ it. If you got folks comin’ and goin’ all the time, forget about it. This ain’t the cat for you. They’ll hide under the bed, behind the curtains, anywhere they can find a little peace and quiet. And don’t even think about loud noises! Vacuum cleaners, blenders, that loud music the young’uns listen to… scares ’em half to death. You gotta keep things calm and peaceful for these cats.

  • Loud Noises: Big no-no. Think thunder, fireworks, even a dropped pan.
  • Strangers: They ain’t social butterflies, these cats. Keep the crowds away.
  • Changes in Routine: Keep things predictable. Feed ’em at the same time, keep their stuff where they like it.

Now, how do you know if your Russian Blue is scared? Well, it ain’t rocket science. If they’re hidin’ all the time, that’s a big clue. And like I said, they might start lickin’ themselves too much, pullin’ out their fur. Some of ’em might even get a little… well, let’s just say they might hiss and swat. They ain’t mean, they’re just scared.

So, what can you do? First off, give ’em a safe space. A quiet little corner where they can hide and feel safe. Maybe a cozy bed under the table, or a box in the closet. And don’t force ‘em to be friendly. Let ‘em come to you when they’re ready. Be patient, you know? It takes time for them to trust you.

And for goodness sake, keep things quiet! If you gotta have a party, maybe put the cat in a quiet room with some toys and food and water. And talk to ‘em soft and gentle. Let ‘em know they’re safe. You gotta earn their trust, see?

Another thing, these cats, they like bein’ up high. It makes ’em feel safe, like they can see everything that’s goin’ on. So, get ‘em a cat tree, or clear off a shelf or somethin’ so they can perch up there and watch the world go by. And make sure they got plenty of toys to keep ’em busy. A bored cat is a nervous cat, I always say.

And don’t forget the brushin’! They got that thick fur, and it needs to be brushed regular-like. It ain’t just about keepin’ ’em pretty, it’s about makin’ ’em feel good too. A good brushin’ can calm a nervous cat right down.

Look, Russian Blues ain’t for everyone. They need a quiet home, a patient owner, and a whole lotta love. But if you give ’em what they need, they’ll be the best darn cats you ever did see. Just remember, keep things calm, keep things predictable, and let ’em be themselves. That’s the secret to a happy Russian Blue.

In short, a happy Russian Blue is a cat that feels safe and secure. And that means a quiet home, a consistent routine, and a whole lotta patience from you. So, if you’re thinkin’ about gettin’ one of these silver beauties, make sure you’re ready to give ‘em the love and care they need. It ain’t always easy, but it’s worth it.
