Okay, so today I was messing around with this school called Garfield High School, yeah, the one in Seattle. It’s got some history, you know, named after President Garfield and all that. I was curious, so I started digging around.
First, I checked out where it is exactly. Turns out it’s in the Central District of Seattle. Not too shabby. Then I got into the whole mascot thing – they’re the Bulldogs. I pictured a bunch of kids running around in purple and white, their school colors. Pretty standard stuff.

Next, I wanted to see how many kids actually go there. I found out they have a ton of students there, and it is super diverse, which is cool. Grades 9-12, the usual high school setup.
Then, I went down a bit of a rabbit hole reading about the school’s history. Apparently, it’s been around for a while and has seen some famous faces. Some famous musician named Jimi Hendrix went there, and even Quincy Jones, heard he was pretty big back in the day. They also had some other folks like Macklemore, filmmaker Lynn Shelton, architect Minoru Yamasaki, and writer Lindy West. It’s got a rep for being all about college prep, with all sorts of advanced classes.
I also stumbled upon some rankings. I found out that Garfield High School is ranked pretty high up in the national rankings. They looked at things like test scores and how well they get kids ready for college. They have some kind of performing arts and music programs too.
I found something about it being called a “model of integration” way back when. Sounds like it’s got an interesting past, and it is cool to see how it’s changed over the years, especially with the neighborhood around it changing and all.
Later, I watched some video about their band. I guess they were on some FOX show, which is neat. They were playing in the afternoon sunshine, which reminded me of that Franklin High School, but that’s a whole other story.
So, yeah, that’s my deep dive into Garfield High School. Just a regular day, poking around the internet and learning some random stuff. It’s a pretty interesting place, though, with a lot of history and a lot going on. The whole “sunshine” thing just seemed to fit with the vibe of the place, you know? Anyway, that’s all for now.
