Okay, so yesterday I saw this post online about whether Epsom salt is bad for cats. I got curious ’cause I’ve used Epsom salt for my own baths, and I have a cat, Mittens. So, I decided to find out if it’s safe for her.
First, I tried looking up some stuff online. It was a mess! Some articles said it was okay in small amounts, and others were freaking out about it being poisonous. I got confused. But it seems like it’s used in some stuff about cats, and it had some science names like magnesium sulfate.

- Tried talking to some friends who have cats. One said she’d heard of using it for cat baths, but she wasn’t sure.
- Another friend told me to ask a vet, which made sense.
So I called up my vet’s office. The vet wasn’t available, but the tech said that Epsom salt isn’t really good for cats to eat. She said it’s better to be safe and just not use it around them. We are talking about something like a chemical here.
My Conclusion
After all that, I decided I’m not gonna use Epsom salt around Mittens. It’s just not worth the risk. Even if it might be okay in tiny amounts, I’d rather not take the chance. I’ll stick to regular cat-safe stuff for her.
But it did get me thinking about how we gotta be careful about what we use around our pets. It’s always a good idea to double-check with the vet, even if it seems like a small thing. Sometimes it’s just not worth it. I’ll keep this in mind from now on.
