My Hunt for a Sphynx Cattery in Indiana
Alright, so I got this idea stuck in my head – I really wanted a Sphynx cat. You know, the wrinkly, hairless ones. Just something about them. Since I’m right here in Indiana, I figured, okay, let’s find a local cattery. Seemed simple enough at first.
I hopped onto my computer and started digging around. My search process was pretty straightforward, mostly plugging terms into the search bar:

- Sphynx cattery Indiana
- Indiana Sphynx breeder
- Hairless cats for sale Indiana
- Sphynx kittens Indiana
Got a bunch of results, naturally. Some websites looked professional, others… well, less so. You get a feel for these things after a while. I jotted down a few names that seemed promising, ones that actually looked like they were based here in Indiana and not just some aggregator site.
Next step, I tried making contact. Picked up the phone for a couple of them. First one? Number disconnected. Okay, not a great start. Second one went straight to voicemail. Left a message, nice and polite, saying I was interested. Never heard back. That was a bit frustrating, gotta say.
Switched gears and tried email for another place that looked half-decent. Wrote out who I was, what I was looking for, asked if they had kittens or a waiting list. Took a couple of days, but I actually got a response this time. Progress!
They were polite enough. Explained they did have Sphynx cats, but the waiting list was long. Like, really long. They also had a whole application process. Lots of questions about my home, experience with cats, specifically hairless ones, vet references, the works. Honestly, even though it meant more waiting and hoops to jump through, I kinda appreciated that. Showed they weren’t just handing kittens out to anyone.
So, that’s where I landed for a bit. Realized finding a specific breed like a Sphynx, from a reputable place right here in Indiana, wasn’t going to be an overnight thing. It takes effort, research, and a whole lot of patience. It seemed like the options directly within the state lines were fewer than I initially thought.
It became clear this search was turning into more of a long-term project than a quick shopping trip. Still looking, still emailing, still weighing whether to expand my search to neighboring states. It’s definitely a process, this whole finding-a-good-cattery business. You learn as you go.
