Why I Got My Black Corgi Pup
So yeah, I finally did it. After months of thinking, I went and got myself a little black Corgi puppy. Named him Beans, because he’s kinda the color of coffee beans, you know? Looked super cute online, all fluffy and tiny.
First Few Days Were Chaos
Got Beans home, and wow, nothing prepares you. This tiny furball started peeing everywhere. Literally everywhere. I mean, my rug, my shoes, under the couch. It was a mess. He also chewed stuff. Found my favorite slippers shredded one morning. Felt like crying, honestly. Didn’t know where to even start.

Setting Up The Basics
Had to get my act together fast. Here’s what I scrambled to do:
- Bought one of those crate things. Put it in the corner of the living room.
- Set up a water bowl and food dish. Used the puppy kibble the breeder suggested.
- Took Beans outside constantly. Like every hour, even at 2 AM. So tired.
Had to be super regular with feeding too. Same times every day. Measured the food exactly. Didn’t wanna mess up his little tummy.
Actual Training Stuff I Tried
Tried to teach Beans simple stuff first. The big one was where to pee. Used treats.
- Every time he peed outside, I gave him a tiny treat right there and then. Said “good boy” like a broken record.
- Inside accidents? Cleaned it up fast with the enzyme cleaner. Didn’t yell. Read somewhere yelling just confuses them.
Then tried the sit thing. Held a treat near his nose, moved my hand up. When his butt hit the floor, treat and praise. Took days of repeating this. He’d just stare sometimes. Drove me nuts. But eventually, he got it.
Leash training was another mess. Put the harness on, Beans acted like he was dying. Dragged me around the yard. Super embarrassing. Short walks only now. Still working on it.
Stuff That Actually Worked
Learned a few things the hard way:
- Being patient sucks, but works better than getting mad.
- Short training sessions. Like 5 minutes tops. Puppy brains wander fast.
- Finding the right treat was key. Beans loves these little chicken bites.
- The crate helped a ton with potty training. He whined at first, but settled down.
Took weeks. Still messes up sometimes. Chewed the corner of my book last Tuesday. But overall? Way less pee inside now, sits most of the time when asked. Leash still a battle, but we’re getting there. Don’t expect magic, just keep doing the things.
