Okay, so I decided a while back I wanted to look into getting a Rottweiler pup, and since I’m right here in Pennsylvania, it made sense to find a kennel somewhat local. Didn’t want to trek across the country, you know?
Starting the Hunt
First thing I did, like most folks I guess, was jump online. Fired up the computer and started searching. Things like “Rottweiler breeders PA”, “good Rottweiler kennels near me in Pennsylvania”, that sort of stuff. Got a whole bunch of results, as you’d expect.

Spent a good bit of time just clicking through websites. Some looked pretty professional, lots of photos, info about their dogs, health checks. Others… well, let’s just say they looked a bit dated, not much information. Made me wonder a bit.
What I Was Looking For
I wasn’t just looking for the cheapest pup or the closest place. Nah, that’s not how you do it, especially with a breed like Rottweilers. You gotta be careful.
- Health Stuff: Big one for me. Wanted to see they were doing hip and elbow checks, maybe heart stuff too. Stuff that Rotties can sometimes have issues with.
- Temperament Talk: Were they talking about well-adjusted dogs? Family dogs? Or just guard dogs? I wanted a solid, even-tempered companion.
- Seeing the Place: Really wanted a place that was open about letting you see where the dogs lived, meet the parent dogs if possible. Transparency, you know?
Making Contact and Visiting
So, I made a shortlist. Started sending emails and making some calls. This part was interesting. Some breeders were super friendly, happy to chat for ages about their dogs, answer all my questions. Real passionate folks. Others were kinda short, almost like I was wasting their time. That was a bit of a turn-off, gotta say.
I managed to set up visits to a couple of kennels that seemed promising. Drove out to see them. One place was decent, clean, dogs seemed happy enough, but the breeder was a bit… cagey? Didn’t get a great vibe.
Another spot I visited felt much better. The dogs looked great, healthy, active. The place was clean, didn’t smell bad. The breeder spent a lot of time with me, showed me the mom dog, talked honestly about the breed, the good and the bad. That felt right. You could tell they really cared about their animals, not just churning out puppies.
Some Hurdles Along the Way
It wasn’t all smooth sailing. Some kennels just never replied to emails or calls. Some had websites that hadn’t been updated in years, so you didn’t even know if they were still breeding. And yeah, filtering through the ones that maybe weren’t doing all the right health checks took time. You really have to ask specific questions.
You gotta be patient. Finding the right breeder, the right kennel, it takes effort. It’s not like buying something off a shelf.

Where I Ended Up
After all that looking and visiting, I did find a kennel I felt really good about. They ticked all my boxes – health testing, good temperaments, transparent setup, and the breeder was someone I felt I could trust. Didn’t get a pup immediately, had to wait for a litter, but it felt worth it to wait for the right situation.
So yeah, that was my journey digging into Rottweiler kennels here in PA. Took some time, some driving, a bunch of emails and calls, but definitely doable if you put in the work and know what you’re looking for. Just gotta do your homework.
