Okay, so I’ve been wanting a super unique cat for a while, and I finally decided to go for it. I’d seen pictures online of these majestic black Maine Coon cats, and some of them had these piercing blue eyes. I was like, “Yep, that’s the one.” So my mission began!
Finding My Feline Friend
First, I started digging around online. I checked out tons of breeder websites. I mean, tons. It felt like I was looking at hundreds of cat pictures!
I narrowed it down to a few breeders that specialized in Maine Coons, and even fewer that mentioned anything about blue eyes, which I learned are pretty rare in black Maine Coons.
The Waiting Game (and Lots of Emails)
I sent out a bunch of emails, asking about availability, pricing, and, of course, those blue eyes. Most breeders got back to me, some took days, and a couple of times, I got no answer.
- One breeder had a waiting list a mile long.
- Another had kittens, but none with the blue eyes I was dreaming of.
- Finally, one breeder, about three hours away, emailed me back saying they had one black male kitten with bright blue eyes!
Road Trip!
I was so stoked! I immediately scheduled a visit. I drove those three hours, filled with anticipation. When I got there, and the breeder brought out this little fluffball, I was done. He was perfect! This tiny black kitten with the most amazing blue eyes I’d ever seen.
Bringing Him Home
Of Course, I immediately paid the breeder, and prepared him for our long ride home. It’s the best thing ever!
It was a bit of a process, a lot of searching and waiting, but totally worth it. Now I’ve got this amazing, unique cat, and he’s already ruling the house. It was so worth the extra effort to find exactly what I wanted!
