Okay, so I’ve been thinking about getting a golden retriever puppy for a while now, and I finally decided to take the plunge. I live in Nebraska, so I started my search for breeders in my state.
Finding a Breeder
First, I did some digging online to get a sense of what to look for in a breeder. I read some stuff that said good breeders really care about the health and happiness of their dogs. So I started looking for breeders that mentioned health testing and good living conditions for their pups. It was tough, you know? Like, everyone says they’re the best, but I wanted to find someone legit. I figured, it’s better to be safe than sorry, especially when it comes to a new member of the family.

I stumbled upon a few breeders’ websites. Most of them looked okay, but one caught my eye because they talked about breeding those “British-type” golden retrievers. I found a small one that breeds European-bred ones for service or therapy. They talked about how smart and healthy their dogs are. I wasn’t really looking for a service dog, but it sounded good to me.
My Search
- I made a list of breeders in Nebraska that seemed promising.
- I checked out their websites and read through all their information.
- I looked for details about their breeding practices, health testing, and how they raise their puppies.
Making Contact
After narrowing down my list, I started calling and emailing the breeders. I asked them a bunch of questions. You know, things like, “How long have you been breeding?” and “Can I visit your facilities?” Some were super friendly and answered everything, while others were a bit short with me. I guess that’s normal, but it helped me figure out who I was most comfortable with. Honestly, it was a bit nerve-wracking, but I knew it was important to find the right fit.
Choosing My Puppy
I visited a couple of the breeders that made it to the top of my list. Seeing the puppies in person was amazing! They were all so cute, it was hard to choose. But I really paid attention to how the breeders interacted with the dogs and how the puppies behaved. I ended up choosing a breeder who seemed genuinely passionate about their dogs. They showed me all the health records and answered all my questions with patience.
Finally, I picked out my little guy! It was such an exciting moment. He was the fluffiest, most playful one of the litter. I paid the deposit and made arrangements to pick him up a few weeks later. Now, I’m just counting down the days until I can bring him home! It’s been a journey, but I’m so glad I did my research and found a breeder I trust. I can’t wait for all the adventures we’ll have together!
