Okay, so I decided I really wanted a Persian cat. You know, those fluffy, kinda grumpy-looking cats? Yeah, those. I’d seen pictures and just fell in love with their whole vibe. Living in California, I figured it shouldn’t be too hard to find one, right?
Starting the Hunt
First thing I did was jump online. Just typed in the basics, you know, “persian cattery california,” “persian kittens california,” stuff like that. Man, a lot popped up. Some looked fancy, some looked kinda basic. It was a bit overwhelming, honestly.

I spent a few nights just scrolling through websites. Some had tons of photos, others barely any. It’s hard to tell what’s real and what’s just good marketing, you know? I made a rough list of names that seemed okay, mostly based on location – trying to stick to places I could actually drive to within a reasonable time.
Digging Deeper
Next step was trying to figure out which ones were legit. I wasn’t looking for just any cat, I wanted a healthy, well-cared-for kitten from a good place. So, I started looking for reviews or mentions outside of their own sites. This was tougher. Not a lot of independent chatter sometimes.
I decided to just start making calls and sending emails. My process was simple:
- Introduce myself.
- Say I’m looking for a Persian kitten.
- Ask about their current litters or waiting list.
- Ask about their health testing practices – this felt important.
- Ask if I could potentially visit the cattery.
The responses were… varied. Some breeders were super friendly, happy to chat, answered all my questions. Others were short, almost like I was bothering them. A few didn’t even reply. That helped narrow things down pretty quickly. If they couldn’t be bothered to talk to a potential buyer, I didn’t feel great about getting a cat from them.
Visiting and Choosing
I found a couple of catteries within driving distance that sounded promising. One lady I spoke to was really nice, spent like 30 minutes on the phone with me talking about her cats like they were her kids. She invited me to visit once the kittens were a bit older. That felt right.
So, I scheduled a visit. Driving out there, I was kinda nervous. What if the place was weird? But it was actually lovely. Clean, didn’t smell bad (which I worried about), and the cats looked happy and healthy. The adult Persians were just lounging around, looking majestic.
Seeing the kittens sealed the deal. They were tiny bundles of fluff, exploring and playing. The breeder showed me the parents, talked about their personalities. She showed me paperwork for health checks. It wasn’t a high-pressure sales thing at all, just someone who clearly loved her cats and wanted them to go to good homes.

I spent a while there, just watching the kittens. There was one little guy, a smoky grey one, who kept batting at my shoelace. He wasn’t the fanciest, maybe, but he had personality. I told the breeder he was the one I was interested in.
Bringing Him Home (Almost!)
So, yeah, that’s how I found my Persian cattery here in California. It took some digging, some phone calls, and trusting my gut feeling after visiting. I put down a deposit for the little grey guy. He’s still too young to leave his mom, but in a few weeks, he’ll be coming home. It was a process, for sure, going from just an idea to actually finding a real kitten from a place I felt good about. Lots of scrolling, lots of dead ends, but worth it when you find the right fit.
