Well, let me tell you ’bout this here Garfield fat cat. He ain’t no ordinary cat, no sirree. This cat, he’s somethin’ else.
First off, he’s big. Real big. Like a fluffy potato sack, only with a tail and whiskers. And lazy? Don’t even get me started! He wouldn’t chase a mouse if it was wearin’ a bell and dancin’ a jig right in front of him. He’d just roll over and ask for another lasagna. Yep, lasagna. That’s his favorite. He eats more of that stuff than a whole family of field hands after a long day of work. I swear, that cat’s got a bottomless pit for a stomach.

- He sleeps all day.
- He eats all night.
- And then he sleeps some more.
I seen him eat a whole pie once. A whole pie! Apple, it was. Didn’t even leave a crumb. Just licked the plate clean and then went right back to snoozin’ on the couch. And that couch? It’s got a dent in it shaped just like him now. A Garfield-shaped dent.
Now, this Garfield, he ain’t all bad. He’s got a soft spot, he does. For his owner, Jon. That fella’s a bit of a goofball, always wearin’ them funny clothes and talkin’ to his dog, Odie. Odie’s another story altogether, a dumb dog but harmless. But Garfield, he loves Jon, in his own way. He’ll rub up against his legs, purrin’ like a motor, and sometimes, just sometimes, he’ll even let Jon pet him without complainin’ too much. But mostly, he just wants food and sleep. And maybe some TV. He likes watchin’ them cartoons, that cat does.
They got books ’bout him, you know. Lots of ’em. I seen ’em at the store. Big books and little books, all full of pictures of that fat cat doin’ his thing. Eatin’, sleepin’, and makin’ fun of Jon and Odie. I reckon folks like readin’ ’bout him ’cause he’s funny. He’s like that lazy uncle everyone’s got, the one who just sits around and cracks jokes. You can’t help but laugh at him, even when he’s bein’ a pain in the neck.
I heard tell they even made movies ’bout him! Can you believe that? A whole movie ’bout a cat that does nothin’ but eat and sleep. Well, I guess that’s somethin’, ain’t it? Shows you what folks find entertainin’ these days. Not me, though. I’d rather watch the birds fly by or the grass grow. But that Garfield, he’s somethin’ else. He’s famous, I tell you. Famous for bein’ fat and lazy.
Garfield, America’s favorite cat, they call him. America’s favorite. Imagine that. A whole country lovin’ a cat that wouldn’t lift a paw to help nobody. But that’s Garfield for ya. He don’t care what nobody thinks. He just wants his lasagna and his naps. And that’s why we love him, I guess. ‘Cause he’s just himself, no matter what.
He’s got them comic strips too. I seen them in the newspaper sometimes, when I get a chance to go to town. Three little stories in one book sometimes they say. All ’bout Garfield bein’ lazy and eatin’ too much. And Jon, poor fella, always tryin’ to get him to do somethin’, but Garfield just ignores him. It’s the same thing over and over, but it still makes you chuckle. You know what’s gonna happen, but it’s still funny. Like watchin’ a baby try to walk, you know it’s gonna fall but you still laugh.
So, that’s the story of Garfield, the fat cat. He’s lazy, he’s greedy, and he’s got a heart of gold, somewhere deep down under all that fur and lasagna. He’s a good cat. A funny cat. And even though he ain’t much for workin’, he sure knows how to live the good life. Sleepin’, eatin’, and bein’ loved. Can’t ask for much more than that, can ya? And now they have this Garfield Fat Cat 3-pack. Seems like everyone wants a piece of him, and I can see why.
