Okay, so I wanted to get a French Bulldog, and I live in Illinois, so I started looking for breeders. Here’s how it went:
First, I started with a simple search. I just typed “french bulldog breeders illinois” into the search bar and hit enter.

Then I got a bunch of results. I started clicking through some of the websites. Some looked okay, some looked kinda sketchy, you know? I definitely avoided the ones that felt off.
Checking Reputations.
After I found a few that seemed alright, I tried to find reviews or any information about them. I looked for any complaints or red flags. Better safe than sorry, right?
- I checked if they were listed with any reputable kennel clubs.
- I searched for their names and the word “complaints” or “reviews”.
- I Looked for any obvious website issues, broken pages, or contact information.
Next, I made some calls. I wanted to get a feel for the breeders. I asked a lot of questions – maybe too many, haha! I asked about their breeding practices, the health of the puppies, if I could visit, stuff like that.
Talking to Breeders
I talked to a few different breeders. Some were really helpful and open, others were kinda short with me. It definitely helped me narrow down my choices.
Finally, after all that, I think I’ve found a breeder I’m comfortable with. I’m still going to do a bit more checking, maybe see if I can find anyone who’s gotten a puppy from them before, but I’m feeling pretty good about it!
It’s a lot of work, that is for sure, but it’s worth doing to bring your own puppy!
