Okay, so my cat, Whiskers, had been scratching like crazy lately. It was driving both of us nuts! I figured it was probably fleas or ticks, those little buggers. I wanted to get her some relief, and I’d heard good things about those chewable treatments, so I decided to give them a try.
The Hunt for the Right Chews
First, I did what I assume everyone does, I hit up the internet to get the inside scoop. Reviews, comparisons, you name it. There are a ton of options out there, which is good, but also, wow, overwhelming! I felt like i was reading everything about every brand.

I narrowed it down based on what other cat owners seemed to like and, of course, price. Gotta be honest, some of those things are expensive! I ended up picking a brand that had decent reviews and didn’t totally break the bank.
Getting Whiskers to Cooperate
Now, the real challenge: getting Whiskers to actually eat the chew. She’s a pretty picky eater, my girl. I’ve tried sneaking medicine into her food before, and she’s way too smart for that. She’ll eat around it, every single time.
This time, I decided to try a different tactic. I crushed up the chew – it was surprisingly easy to crumble – and mixed it with a tiny bit of her favorite wet food, the really smelly, fishy kind.
- Step 1: Crush the chew.
- Step 2: Mix with super smelly wet food.
- Step 3: Cross fingers and hope for the best!
I held my breath, put the bowl down, and…success! She gobbled it right up. I almost did a little victory dance. I do feel kinda proud of my skills!
Waiting and Watching
The chews I got said they’d start working within a few hours. And, true to their word, Whiskers seemed a lot less itchy later that day. She was actually napping peacefully instead of constantly scratching. It was such a relief to see her comfortable.
I kept a close eye on her for the next few days, just to make sure she didn’t have any weird reactions. Some cats can be sensitive to new things, you know? But she was totally fine. Just a much happier, less-scratchy kitty.
So far, so good! It’s been a couple of weeks, and those pesky fleas and ticks seem to be gone. Whiskers is back to her usual, sassy self, and I’m a much happier cat owner. It was a bit of a process, but totally worth it to see her comfortable again.
