Alright, let’s talk about finding a name for a Siamese cat. I went through this whole process myself not too long ago when I got my little guy.
So, first thing, I got this beautiful Siamese kitten. You know how they are, striking blue eyes, those dark points, and very chatty. Right away, I knew I couldn’t just slap any old name on him. It had to fit, you know? Felt like a big responsibility.

I started where most people probably do – just searching online. Typed in “Siamese cat names” and boom, tons of lists. Some were okay, but a lot felt kinda generic. Lots of suggestions based on their Thai origin, which makes sense, but I wasn’t sure I wanted something I couldn’t pronounce easily or that felt too… expected.
My Initial Hunt
I spent a few evenings just scrolling. Saw names like:
- Thai names: Ananda, Chatri, Mali… some sounded nice, others were a bit tricky.
- Color names: Ash, Seal, Blue (a bit too on the nose for me).
- Royal names: Prince, Duke, Raja… felt a little pretentious for my taste, even if Siamese cats act like royalty sometimes.
- Mysterious names: Shadow, Ghost, Mystic… okay, but maybe a bit cliché?
I made a short list, maybe ten names? But none of them really clicked. I’d try saying them out loud, imagining calling him. “Here, Chatri!” “Come on, Ananda!” Just didn’t feel right.
Thinking About My Cat
Then I decided to stop looking at lists for a bit and just watched the kitten. He was super playful, maybe a little clumsy, but also really smart. And loud! That classic Siamese meow, you can’t miss it. He followed me everywhere.
I wanted something that reflected his personality, not just his breed. Something maybe a little elegant because, let’s face it, they look elegant, but also something a bit quirky or fun.
I thought about names from books or movies I liked. Considered ‘Figaro’ for a bit (like the cat in Pinocchio), but it felt a bit too common. Thought about ‘Loki’ because he was definitely mischievous, but seemed like every other pet was named Loki these days.
The Breakthrough
One afternoon, I was just messing around, calling him silly things. I think I called him ‘Mr. Blue Eyes’ or something equally daft. Then I remembered an old character from somewhere, maybe a book, maybe a show, I can’t even recall exactly where now, named ‘Jasper’.

It just… sounded right. Jasper. It felt sophisticated but not stuffy. It was easy to say. It didn’t scream “SIAMESE CAT!” but it had a nice ring to it. I tried it out. “Jasper? Jasper, wanna play?” He actually perked up his ears and looked right at me. Maybe it was coincidence, but it felt like a sign.
So, Jasper it was. It wasn’t on any specific ‘best Siamese names’ list I saw, not prominently anyway. It just came about through trying things out and seeing what stuck, what felt natural for this specific cat.
My takeaway? Those lists are a decent starting point, sure. But don’t get too hung up on them. Watch your cat, think about their quirks, and try saying names out loud. Sometimes the best name isn’t the most popular or the most traditional, it’s just the one that feels right when you say it, and maybe, just maybe, the cat seems to like it too. That’s how I found Jasper, anyway.
