Alright, let’s talk about this… this… what do you call it? Corgi Elkhound mix, yeah, that’s it. Sounds fancy, but it’s just a dog, ain’t it? Like any other dog, gotta eat, gotta poop, gotta yap sometimes.

Now, I ain’t no expert, you hear? But I’ve seen my share of dogs. My neighbor, old Mrs. Higgins, she had a… well, never mind what she had. The point is, dogs is dogs. But this Corgi Elkhound mix, it’s a bit of a… a mix-up, you see?
You got this Corgi, short legs, long body, looks like a loaf of bread somebody sat on. Then you got this Elkhound, bigger, fluffier, like a wolf decided to be a house pet. Put ‘em together, and what do you get? I don’t rightly know! Probably somethin’ with short legs and a whole lotta fur, I reckon.
- Looks: Like I said, short legs, probably. And fur. Lots of fur. Probably gonna shed all over your house, too. Get ready for that! Maybe it’ll have pointy ears, maybe floppy. Who knows? It’s a mutt, that’s what it is! A fancy mutt, but a mutt all the same.
And what about its… what’s that word… temper… temper-something? Yeah, temperament! Well, Corgis, they’re herding dogs, you know. Always nipping at your heels, trying to keep you in line. Elkhounds, they’re hunters, I think. So, this mix? Probably gonna be bossy and chase squirrels. Maybe chase your chickens too, if you got any.
Training one of these things? Good luck! Dogs are stubborn, especially these mixed-up ones. You gotta be patient, gotta be firm. Like teachin’ a kid, but with more treats and less talkin’ back, maybe. Start ‘em young, that’s what they say. And be consistent. Don’t let ‘em get away with nothin’. Otherwise, they’ll be runnin’ the house, not you.
- Feeding ‘em: Don’t overfeed ‘em, that’s for sure. Fat dogs ain’t happy dogs. Get some good dog food, not that cheap stuff. And make sure they always got fresh water. Simple as that. Just like feedin’ any other critter, really.
- Exercise: Even with short legs, these dogs probably gonna need to run around. Take ‘em for walks, throw a ball, let ‘em chase squirrels in the yard. Tired dog is a good dog, that’s what I always say. If not, they’ll be tearin’ up your house, you mark my words.
Now, where do you even get one of these Corgi Elkhound mixes? I ain’t got a clue. Probably gotta look around. Check the shelters, maybe. Or find someone who breeds ‘em, though I don’t know why anyone would on purpose. But hey, to each their own. Just make sure you’re ready for the responsibility. A dog ain’t a toy, you know. It’s a livin’ thing, needs care and attention.
So, is a Corgi Elkhound mix right for you? I can’t tell you that. It depends on what you want, what you can handle. They’re probably cute, yeah, but cute ain’t everything. Think about the fur, the energy, the training. And think about if you got the time and patience to deal with a dog that’s probably got a mind of its own.

If you’re lookin’ for a dog that’ll sit quietly in the corner all day, this ain’t it. If you want a dog that’ll follow you around, yap at the mailman, and shed enough fur to make a whole ‘nother dog… well, then maybe this Corgi Elkhound mix is just what you need. Like I said, I ain’t no expert. Just an old woman who’s seen a thing or two.
Other Mixes to Consider: Now, if you’re thinkin’ about mixin’ breeds, there’s others out there. I heard tell of a Corgi Husky mix, they call it a Horgi or Corsky. Sounds like trouble to me. And a Shiba Corgi, that’s another one. Small dogs, all of ‘em. Then there’s the Cardigan Welsh Corgi Norwegian Elkhound Mix, sounds just as fancy as this one we’ve been talkin’ about. And people mix Corgis with all sorts, even Australian Shepherds and Border Collies, them herdin’ dogs. Makes your head spin, all these mixes.
But in the end, a dog’s a dog. Love ’em, feed ’em, take care of ’em, and they’ll love you back. That’s all there is to it, fancy breed or not.
