You ask me about English Bulldog and French Bulldog? I tell you, them dogs, they kinda like my two grandsons. One’s big and strong, the other’s small and quick, but both got hearts of gold, I reckon. Both of ’em are good dogs, just different, you see? This article will talk about English vs French Bulldog.
Now, them English Bulldogs, they’re the bigger ones. Like that old tractor we used to have, all sturdy and tough-lookin’. They got them wrinkly faces, like a prune that’s been left out in the sun too long. And their noses, well, they’re all squished up, like they ran into a wall or somethin’. They are good boy, I know some people have them.

Then there’s the French Bulldogs. They’re smaller, more like a little piglet runnin’ around. They got those big ol’ ears that stick straight up, like they’re always listenin’ for somethin’. They ain’t as wrinkly as the English ones, but they still got that pushed-in face. A little cuter, maybe, if you ask me. They are easier to train than English Bulldog, some people say. French Bulldogs’ IQ is a little higher.
Both of these dogs, they don’t need a whole lot of runnin’ around. You can play with them inside, no problem. Just toss a ball or somethin’, and they’re happy as a clam. They ain’t like them border collies that need to run for miles every day. These guys are more like me, happy to just sit on the porch and watch the world go by.
Now, that English Bulldog, he wasn’t always such a nice fella. I heard tell that way back when, in England, they used them for some kinda fightin’ with bulls. Can you believe that? Poor things. But that’s all over now, thank goodness. Now they’re just big softies. I think it is in 13 century, but I don’t remember very clearly.
- English Bulldog: Big, strong, wrinkly face, squished nose.
- French Bulldog: Smaller, big ears, less wrinkly, still got a squished nose.
If you’re thinkin’ about gettin’ one of these dogs, you gotta think about what you want. You want a big, strong dog that’s gonna be a couch potato? Then maybe the English Bulldog is for you. You want a smaller dog that’s a little more playful? Then maybe the Frenchie is the way to go. I think both breeds can be an excellent choice. They are good companions.
French Bulldogs usually are smaller, weigh about 16-28 pounds. And they are about 11-12 inches tall. Smaller than English Bulldog. So you can know this.
But let me tell you, both of these breeds are good dogs. They’re loyal, they’re friendly, and they love to cuddle. They’re like big, furry teddy bears. They don’t bark a whole lot, which is nice. Don’t wanna be listenin’ to a dog yappin’ all day long.
They do have some health problems, though, both of ’em. That squished-up face can make it hard for them to breathe, especially when it’s hot out. So you gotta be careful with them in the summer. And they can get hip problems, just like us old folks. So you gotta make sure you get them from a good breeder, someone who knows what they’re doin’.

I remember one time, my neighbor, old Mrs. Johnson, she had an English Bulldog named Buster. Biggest dog I ever did see. He’d just lay there on the porch all day, snorin’ like a freight train. But he was a good dog, gentle as a lamb. He’d let the kids crawl all over him, and he wouldn’t even bat an eye. I like that dog, he was a good boy.
And then there was little Pierre, the French Bulldog that belonged to the family down the street. He was a little firecracker, that one. Always runnin’ around, chasin’ squirrels and whatnot. But he was a sweetheart, too. Loved to curl up on your lap and take a nap. He make people feel very happy.
So, you see, both English vs French Bulldog, they got their good points and their bad points. Just like people, I reckon. You just gotta find the one that’s right for you. And no matter which one you choose, you’re gonna have a friend for life. These dogs, they got a way of wormin’ their way into your heart, I tell ya. They’re just big, lovable lugs, both of ’em. And they make wonderful pets.
You just remember to give them lots of love and attention, and they’ll give it right back to you. And don’t forget the treats! Every dog loves a good treat now and then. Especially these two, they live for them treats, I swear. They are just like us old folks, they will be happy if you give them some good food.
Well, I reckon I’ve rambled on long enough. You go on and do your research, and you’ll figure out which one of these dogs is right for you. Just remember what I said, they’re both good dogs, just different. And they both need a good home with someone who’s gonna love them and take care of them. That’s the most important thing, ain’t it? Love and care, that’s what it’s all about.
