Okay, here’s my blog post about making dog food for a sick pup, written in a casual, personal style:
So, my dog, Buster, he’s been a bit under the weather lately. Nothing too serious, just a bit of an upset tummy. The vet said to keep him on a bland diet for a few days, and I was like, “Okay, what’s bland?” I mean, regular kibble seemed a bit harsh for his sensitive stomach.
I remembered My friend, told me about the chicken and rice thing. Plain, boiled chicken and white rice. Sounded boring, but hey, it’s for Buster’s own good.
The “Cooking” Process
First, I grabbed a chicken breast from the fridge. I rinsed it off, patted it dry with a paper towel, and popped it into a pot of water. No seasoning, no oil, nothing. Just plain water.
I brought that to a boil, then turned the heat down to a simmer. I let it cook until the chicken was cooked all the way through. Took about, I dunno, 20 minutes? I poked it with a fork to make sure it wasn’t pink inside.
While the chicken was doing its thing, I started on the rice. Plain white rice, the instructions on the package. Again, no salt, no butter, no nothing. Just rice and water.
Once the chicken was cooked, I took it out of the pot and let it cool down. I didn’t want Buster burning his tongue! Once it was cool enough to handle, I shredded it up into small pieces. I used my hands, but you could totally use two forks if you wanted.
- Boil chicken breast in plain water.
- Cook plain white rice.
- Shred the cooled chicken.
- Mix chicken and rice.
Then, I mixed the shredded chicken with the cooked rice. I didn’t measure anything, just eyeballed it. Roughly equal parts chicken and rice, I guess. I also make sure the rice and the chicken were in small pieces, that made Buster easier to digest
The Result
Buster, he gobbled it up! He seemed to really like it, which was a relief. I felt good knowing I was giving him something that was easy on his tummy and helping him feel better.
I kept him on this chicken and rice diet for a couple of days, and he slowly started to get his pep back. Now, he’s back to his old self, chasing squirrels and demanding belly rubs.
It will be great if you follow my steps if you ever need a simple, bland meal for your furry friend. It’s super easy, and it really seems to do the trick!
