Okay, so the other day I decided to make a dog ball with a rope for my furry friend, Max. He loves to play fetch and chew on things, so I thought, why not combine the two? Here’s how I did it.
Gathering Supplies
First, I grabbed what I needed:

- An old tennis ball – one that Max hadn’t completely destroyed yet.
- Some sturdy rope – I used about 3 feet of thick cotton rope I found in the garage.
- A drill with a bit slightly larger than the rope’s diameter.
- Scissors, of course.
Making the Toy
I started by drilling a hole straight through the tennis ball. It was a little tougher than I thought, and the ball kept wanting to roll away. I had to hold it down really firmly. I drilled another hole directly opposite the first, so the rope could go all the way through.
Next, I threaded the rope through one hole and out the other. This took some wiggling, but I got it eventually. I made sure to leave a good amount of rope on both ends.
Then, I tied a big knot at each end of the rope, as close to the ball as I could. I made sure the knots were super tight, so Max wouldn’t be able to pull the rope out. Double knots, people! Safety first!
Finally, I trimmed the excess rope, leaving a few inches of frayed ends for Max to chew on. He seems to like that part.
The Result!
And there you have it! A simple, DIY dog ball with a rope. Max went absolutely nuts for it! He chased it, chewed on it, and brought it back for more. I’m pretty happy with how it turned out, and it saved me from buying another toy that he’d probably destroy in a week anyway. Plus, it’s always fun to make something with your own hands, right?
