Well, let me tell ya ’bout these big ol’ dogs, the Great Dane and that Siberian Husky mix, you know, the ones them city folks are all gaga over. I ain’t no expert, mind you, just tellin’ it like I see it.
First off, what are they? They’re a mix, see? Like when you mix flour and water to make biscuits, only these folks are mixin’ dogs. You got your Great Dane, that big fella, tall as a table, and then that Husky, looks like a wolf but acts like a goofball. Put ’em together, and you got a whole new kinda dog.

Them Great Danes, they’re huge, like I said. I heard someone sayin’ they can get to be almost three feet tall at the shoulder and weigh more than I do! Can you imagine? Big enough to ride like a pony, ha! They say they come from mixin’ some speedy dogs and some big, strong ones. Greyhounds and English Mastiffs, they called ‘em. And maybe some wolfhound thrown in for good measure. Makes sense, I guess.
Now, them Huskies, they’re somethin’ else. Full of energy, like a flea on a hot skillet. Always runnin’ and jumpin’ and makin’ noise. They’re from cold places, I hear, so they got all that fur to keep ‘em warm. Good lookin’ dogs, though, with them blue eyes that look right through ya.
- Size: These mixed-up dogs, they gonna be big. Real big. Probably taller than your knee and heavier than a sack of potatoes, maybe even two sacks!
- Temperament: Now, this is where it gets tricky. Great Danes, they’re mostly gentle giants, good with kids and all that. But Huskies, they got that wild streak in ‘em. So, this mix? Could be calm, could be a handful. Just depends on which dog’s personality shines through more, I reckon.
- Energy: You can bet your bottom dollar this dog’s gonna need a lot of exercise. Both Great Danes and Huskies need to run around, so this mix ain’t no couch potato. You better have a big yard, or be ready to walk ’em a lot. Otherwise, they’ll tear up your house, sure as shootin’.
- Looks: Who knows! Could look more like a Dane, could look more like a Husky. Or maybe it’ll be a perfect mix of both. That’s the fun of it, I guess. Like a grab bag, you never know what you’re gonna get.
Why would someone want one of these dogs? Well, some folks like big dogs, I guess. And maybe they want a dog that’s both gentle and playful. If you got kids, a Great Dane and Husky mix might be a good fit, as long as you train it right. You gotta teach ’em some manners, ya know? Can’t have a giant dog jumpin’ on people and runnin’ wild.
But here’s the thing, these big dogs ain’t for everyone. They eat a lot, for one thing. You’ll be buyin’ dog food by the truckload. And they need lots of space to run around. If you live in a tiny apartment, forget about it. This ain’t no chihuahua you can stick in your purse.
And then there’s the trainin’. Big dogs need good trainin’, like I said. You gotta be firm but fair, you know? Show ‘em who’s boss, but don’t be mean about it. And you gotta start young, before they get too big and strong to handle.
Another thing to think about is health. Big dogs sometimes have problems with their joints, their hips and knees and such. So, you might have to take ‘em to the vet more often than you would a smaller dog. And that can get expensive, let me tell ya.
If you’re thinkin’ about gettin’ a Great Dane and Husky mix, do your homework. Read up on both breeds, talk to people who own them. Make sure you’re ready for the commitment. It’s like gettin’ married, you know? You’re in it for the long haul.

So, there you have it. That’s my two cents on these big ol’ mixed-up dogs. They can be great companions, loyal and lovin’. But they’re also a lot of work. Just make sure you know what you’re gettin’ yourself into before you bring one home. Otherwise, you might end up with more than you bargained for. And nobody wants that, right?
And remember, if you are thinking of getting a puppy from these breeds, or any breed for that matter, always make sure you’re getting them from responsible people. Don’t go supportin’ them puppy mills, those places are not good for the dogs or anyone in the long run, treat animals with kindness like the good lord intended, and they will give you love right back ten fold, that’s what I always say.
One last thing, if you do decide to get a great dane husky mix, be prepared to have hair, EVERYWHERE! Both of those breeds have a lot of fur, and that means a lot of shedding. You’ll be vacuuming every day, and you’ll still find hair on your clothes, on your furniture, and probably even in your food, but hey if you love animals, a little hair ain’t no big deal in the grand scheme of things!
