[Body]

Alright, let’s talk about this IVDD thing in Corgis. You know, those little dogs with the short legs and long bodies? Yeah, them. Cute as buttons, but they got problems, bless their hearts.
What is this IVDD thing anyway? Well, it’s like this. Imagine you got these little cushions between the bones in your back, right? They call ’em discs. In these Corgis, these cushions, they can get all messed up. Sometimes they bulge out, sometimes they even burst. And when that happens, ouch! It squishes the stuff in their spine, and that ain’t good.
Now, I ain’t no fancy doctor, but I hear tell there’s two kinds of this IVDD. One kind hits ’em all of a sudden, like BAM! Maybe they jumped off the couch or something, and bam, their back’s all messed up. That’s the acute kind, they say. Then there’s the other kind, the chronic kind, that sneaks up on ’em slow and steady. Like an old tractor rusting in the field, you know? It just gets worse and worse over time.
- Sudden yelping or crying: If your Corgi suddenly yelps or cries out, especially when you touch them or they move a certain way, that could be a sign.
- Shaking or trembling: Sometimes, they’ll shake or tremble like they’re cold, but it ain’t the cold, it’s the pain.
- Not wanting to move: If your Corgi doesn’t want to move, or they’re walking all stiff and hunched over, that’s a bad sign.
- Dragging their back legs: This is a real serious sign. If they’re dragging their back legs, that means their spine is really pinched.
So, how do you know if your little Corgi has this IVDD thing? Well, you gotta pay attention, that’s what. If they start acting funny, you gotta take notice. Maybe they start yelping all of a sudden when you pick ’em up. Or maybe they start shaking and trembling. Or they don’t want to jump up on the couch no more. Or worse, they start dragging their back legs. That’s real bad, real bad.
If you see any of that, you gotta get ’em to the vet, and fast. The vet, they’ll poke and prod, and they might take some pictures of their back, X-rays they call ’em. And then they’ll tell you what’s what. Sometimes, it’s just a little bulge, and they can give ’em some medicine and tell you to keep ’em quiet for a while. No jumping, no running, just resting. Like putting an old horse out to pasture, you know?
But sometimes, it’s worse than that. Sometimes, the disc is really messed up, and they gotta do surgery. Yeah, surgery. Cut ’em open and fix that disc. It sounds scary, and it is, but sometimes it’s the only way to get ’em better. And even then, it ain’t always a sure thing. Sometimes, they still don’t get all the way better. It’s a tough thing, this IVDD.

Now, some folks say you can do things to help prevent IVDD. Like, keeping your Corgi from getting too fat. A fat Corgi is a heavy Corgi, and that puts more stress on their back. And not letting them jump off high things. No jumping off the couch, no jumping out of the car. You gotta be careful with them, you know? They’re delicate little things, even though they think they’re tough.
And if your Corgi does get IVDD, don’t go blaming yourself. Sometimes, it just happens. It’s in their genes, they say. Like some folks are just prone to getting bad backs, these Corgis are just prone to getting bad discs. It ain’t fair, but that’s life, ain’t it?
Living with a Corgi with IVDD ain’t easy, that’s for sure. You gotta be extra careful with them. You gotta watch them all the time. You gotta make sure they don’t do anything to hurt themselves. And you gotta be prepared for the possibility that they might not ever be the same. But you know what? They’re worth it. These little Corgis, they got so much love to give. And even if they can’t run and jump like they used to, they can still cuddle up on the couch and give you those big, brown eyes. And that’s enough, ain’t it?
So, if you got a Corgi, or you’re thinking about getting one, just be aware of this IVDD thing. It’s something you gotta be prepared for. But don’t let it scare you off. These dogs, they’re special. They’re stubborn, they’re funny, and they’re full of love. And that’s worth more than all the gold in the world, wouldn’t you say?
