Okay, so I’ve been wanting to give my cats a better space. You know, somewhere they can really feel at home, safe, and just chill out. I had this spare room at home that wasn’t really being used for much, and I thought, “Why not turn it into a cat paradise?”
Getting Started
First off, I cleared out the entire room. It was full of old boxes and stuff we never used. It felt good to get rid of all that clutter. Once the room was empty, I gave it a good clean, top to bottom. I wanted to make sure it was spotless before the cats moved in.

Making it Cozy
Next up, I started thinking about what cats really love. Comfy spots to sleep, right? I bought a few soft cat beds and placed them around the room. I also added a couple of scratching posts because, you know, cats gotta scratch! Then, I put up some shelves on the walls. Cats love being up high, so I figured this would give them a nice view and a place to perch.
Playtime!
Of course, a cat room isn’t complete without toys. I got a bunch of different toys – some dangly ones, some that roll, and even a laser pointer. I scattered them around the room to keep things interesting. I also installed a cat tree in one corner. It’s got different levels and a little hidey-hole at the bottom. Perfect for climbing and napping.
Feeding Station
I set up a feeding area with separate bowls for food and water. I made sure it was away from the litter box area because, well, hygiene. I also added a little mat underneath to catch any spills. I thought about getting one of those automatic feeders, but I kinda like the routine of feeding them myself.
Litter Box Area
Choosing the right spot for the litter boxes was important. I ended up putting them in a corner that’s a bit more private. I got two large, covered litter boxes to give them some privacy. And of course, I keep a scoop and a trash can nearby for easy cleaning.
Finishing Touches
To make the room even more inviting, I added some cat-friendly plants. I did some research to make sure they were safe for cats. Spider plants and catnip are always a hit. I also hung up some curtains to make the room feel more cozy and to give them some shade during the day.
The Big Reveal
Finally, the room was ready! I opened the door and let my cats in. At first, they were a bit cautious, sniffing around and exploring every nook and cranny. But it didn’t take long for them to make themselves at home. They started playing with the toys, climbing the cat tree, and napping in the beds. It was like they were in heaven!
My Thoughts
Honestly, seeing my cats so happy and relaxed in their new room makes all the effort worth it. It’s become their favorite spot in the house, and they spend hours in there every day. I love popping in to play with them or just watch them chill. It’s been a great project, and I’m so glad I did it. If you have a spare room and some feline friends, I highly recommend giving it a try!
