So, I’ve been messing around with the idea of making my own dog food, and I thought, why not try cod? Yeah, I know it sounds a bit fancy, but hear me out.
I started by doing some digging. Turns out, dogs can totally eat cod. Who knew? It’s packed with protein, those good omega-3 fatty acids, and a bunch of vitamins and minerals. Good stuff, right?

First, I grabbed some cod fillets from the store. Made sure they were boneless and skinless, because nobody wants to deal with that mess. Then, I decided to keep it simple and just boiled the fish. No fancy seasonings, just plain old water. Figured it’s best to keep things basic for the pup.
- Boil some water in a pot.
- Tossed the cod fillets in once it was bubbling.
- Let it cook for about 10-15 minutes, until it was all flaky and cooked through.
- Took it out and let it cool down.
Once it was cool enough to handle, I flaked the cod into smaller pieces. I wanted to make sure it was easy for my dog to eat and, you know, not choke on a giant piece of fish.
Next up, I mixed the cod with some cooked sweet potatoes and green beans. I read somewhere that these are good for dogs, and they add some extra nutrients and fiber. Plus, my dog seems to love them, so it was a win-win.
Finally, I served up a small portion to my furry friend and watched. He gobbled it up like there was no tomorrow! I guess that means it was a success.
The Result
Honestly, it seemed to be a hit. My dog’s been more energetic, and his coat looks shinier than before. Plus, I feel good knowing exactly what’s going into his food. No more guessing games with those long ingredient lists on commercial dog food bags.
I’m not saying I’m gonna do this every day, but it’s definitely something I’ll be doing more often. It’s a bit more work, sure, but seeing my dog happy and healthy makes it all worth it. If you’re thinking about trying it, I say go for it! Just do your research and start slow. Your pup might just thank you for it.
