Okay, so, I’ve been messing around with dog breeding and showing for a while now, and let me tell you, picking a kennel name is way harder than it sounds! It’s not just a name, you know? It’s like, the brand for your dogs, the thing people will remember you by. So, you gotta get it right. I spent days, maybe even weeks, just brainstorming.
First, I made a list of all the things I love about my dogs, like their breed, their personalities, their goofy little quirks. My dogs are mostly Golden Retrievers. They are so lovely and warm. I wrote down everything, no matter how silly it sounded. Then, I started playing around with different words and combinations. I tried mashing up words related to their breed’s characteristics, like “Sunshine” and “Golden,” but it all sounded kinda cheesy, not the vibe I was going for.

- Goldie paws?
- Sunny Hill?
- Warm Furry?
Then I thought, maybe I should go with something more classic, something that sounds fancy and established. But again, it didn’t quite fit. It felt like I was trying too hard, you know? It wasn’t genuine to me or my dogs.
After a lot of back and forth, I finally decided to keep it simple. I picked a name that reflects what I want my kennel to be known for, which is, at its heart, happy, healthy dogs. I used part of my own name, to give a personal touch to my kennel dog name. So, yeah, that’s how I ended up with “Emily Golden Paws Kennel.” It’s not too flashy, not too boring, it’s just right. And most importantly, it feels like us.
Honestly, it was a whole process, with lots of scratching out names and starting over. I drove my family crazy, talking about it all the time. But in the end, I learned that the best kennel name is one that feels true to you and your dogs. It doesn’t have to be the fanciest or the most unique, it just has to feel right.
My two cents
Don’t overthink it, just go with your gut!
