Alright, so I’ve got a Lab, a real bundle of energy, this guy. And like any good dog owner, I wanted to make sure he’s got a comfy spot to chill, you know? So, I started looking into kennels. Figured it couldn’t be that hard, right? Boy, was I in for a ride.
First, I went to this local shop and I found some kennels, and I saw some large size kennels, about 36 inches long, 23 to 24 inches wide, and 25 to 27 inches high. But my dog is an adult male, I had to keep looking.

Next I hit up a couple of pet stores. I measured my Lab, just to be sure. You gotta measure them from the tip of the nose to the base of the tail for length, and from the ground to the top of the head for height. Turns out, my furry friend is a bit bigger than I thought. He’s pushing, like, 70 pounds. The folks at the store told me I needed something around 42 inches long, 28 inches wide, and 30 to 31 inches high. That’s a big boy kennel for a big boy!
Sizing It Up
- Measuring my Lab: Got out the measuring tape and did the whole nose-to-tail thing. He wasn’t too thrilled, but treats helped.
- Shopping Around: Checked out a few different stores, both online and in-person. The selection was wild!
- Expert Advice: Talked to the staff at the pet stores. They were pretty helpful, especially this one guy who also had a Lab. He gave me some good pointers.
But, then there was the whole “finding the right size” shebang. You want the kennel to be big enough so they can stand up, turn around, lie down, all that jazz. But not so big that they feel like they’re rattling around in a giant box. It’s a delicate balance, let me tell you.
Eventually, after what felt like ages, I found the one. It was this sturdy, well-ventilated kennel, just the right size for my big fella. I even got one of those comfy pads to go inside. And let me tell you, he loves it. Spends half the day in there, just snoozing away. Success!
So, if you’re out there looking for a kennel for your Lab, don’t just guess. Measure your dog. Then check with the staff in pet stores. And make sure it’s a good quality kennel that’s going to last. Trust me, it’s worth the effort to see your furry buddy all comfy and cozy in their own little den.
